The Scene
Nick Arrojo transforms the style-challenged on "What Not to Wear," while former staffer Kyan gives grooming advice on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy." Despite the media connections, this light-filled downtown salon is devoid of star attitude; the vibe is relaxed even when busy, and the jokey, supportive relationship between the down-to-earth Arrojo and his staff makes for a pleasant experience.

The Services
With more than 20 years' experience at some of the world's top salons, Arrojo is a proponent of "intelligent cuts and color," blending wearability with the latest trends, and trains his stylists in this method. The result: customized looks that are practical, yet hip. Arrojo is also a precision razor pro who can make this piece-y technique work even on wavy hair. Hair cuts, highlights, single process color, thermal reconditioning, blow-out, wedding services, free blow-outs with color services.

I went to Nicole hoping for a trim but with a style suitable for my face shape and hair texture. She recommended long bangs and cut my hair completely via razor. The bangs looked great and she ended up giving me a wild, tousled-looking haircut. However, I guess she didn't notice the split ends and damage at the back of my hair because it wasn't taken into account when cutting my hair. The front looked great but the back looked like it hadn't even been touched after a few days. The Arrojo leave-in conditioner recommended to me did nothing for my naturally wavy, frizzy hair except enhance the frizziness. Oh and the receptionist Leah, had such a nasty attitude that I had to think twice about coming there in the first place.

Want a great stylist with class, intuition, and 100% professionalism??!!.. go to Hiliary. She gives a fabulous cut and I would recommend her to anyone! Hiliary always listens to your needs and she makes sure you leave happy and satisfied. You will definitely want to show off your hair after a cut with Hiliary and you will want to recommend her to all of your friends. However, you wont even have to name drop because everyone will ask "who cut your hair?". I really am lucky Hiliary Bilstead was recommended to me. I promise you won't leave disappointed. Truly a first class act! You will love her as much as I do! jill

I walked in for my haircut yesterday with Shear Genius star Nicole Obert. The staff was friendly and treat you like a star. Showing you to a dressing room and trading your overcoat for a robe. Then I was met by Nicole who shampoo'd my hair, incredibly. The water temperature was perfect and she massaged my head in a way that had me completely relaxed. I didn't want it to end! We then moved to the chair and talked about my haircut. I used to model in hair shows around the country and know how to recognize a good stylist. And I know that a good stylist needs to know what will look good on YOU, not just what is trendy. Her job is to make you look YOUR best. Not do some crazy cut on you because you are an art project. She talked to me about cutting my hair slightly shorter then I was used to, to bring out my eyes. She also explained to me what my hair wouldn't do. She told me to go too short would be a mistake because of the growth pattern of my hair, once cut too short that it would stick straight up. A stylist needs to be able to take in so much, what looks good on you, what your hair is capable of looking like, have the skills to accomplish that vision, and then teach you to pull of that look everyday on your own. I hate after I get a haircut and walk out loving it. Only to never be able to achieve that look until the next visit. That's not the case here! After we were done with my kickass haircut, we walked over to the product case where she explained everything to me and gave me samples of the product. And what to expect from each. So that way I know which one I want to come back and buy. It stinks to spend $20 on a product only to find it doesn't work for you the way you thought it would. I left feeling good and love my haircut. I went out that night and got tons of compliments on my "Short" cut. What can I say? I trust my stylist!
