What People Are Saying About Loreley Restaurant

The Scene – Those who appreciate beer and Wiener schnitzel flock to this no-frills beer garden with a focus on the brew, not the bling. The bar, modeled after brewhouses in Cologne, keeps things simple, from the slightly shifty looking darkened bar in front to the no-frills pine tables and chairs in back. The crowd is young, hip and amicable. – – The Draw – None of the area's hype and attitude plague this low-key joint. In warm weather, patrons take their smoking and drinking seriously in the outdoor garden with its six large picnic tables. Beer beginners should try…

Editor's Tips

Save Time:
The space is well-equipped to handle groups of 10 or more, but booking ahead is a must (and space in the beer garden can't be reserved in advance).
Save Money:
Order the half liter, the bar's largest size, for the most cost efficiency. Don't worry--you'll drink it all.
The Extras:
Wine from the Loreley region and German brandies, schnapps and spirits round out the drinking menu.
Know Before You Go:
Although the bar may remain open until 4am every night, it tends to close depending on the size of the crowd--which means as early as 12am on weeknights.

Great fun, awesome beer selection, delcious food!

by troypitkin

Had a wonderful time here again recently. We went twice; on a Tuesday, which was mellow and cozy and on a Friday night at 10 pm, which was loads of fun, very busy and typical German brew pub vibe.

I can't say anything bad about this place, great beer selection, well poured (I'm a stickler for good beer service), delicious food both times we went and good service, especially considering how busy it gets. Can't wait for the beer garden season to begin!

  • Pros: beer selection, fun vibe, great food
  • Cons: none

Great Service!

by ballantinebeergrrl

I am a stickler for service and the American girl serving us was great; prompt, pleasant (but not in the way) and always there to refill water glasses, bring new additions ordered after the initial one and knowledgeable about the food and beer-- picking beers to fit our tastes and suggesting new ones to stretch our understanding of beer.

Over all it made the a special night fun and interesting. Thanks for the great service.

DONT GO!!!!!

by notsohardtoplease

THIS WAS ONE THE WORST BARS/RESTAURANTS i HAVE EVER BEEN TO. THE STAFF WAS RUDE, THE SERVICE WAS AWEFUL, THE MANAGER CAME OVER AND TOLD US WE WERE BEING TOO LOUD. THIS IS A BEERGARDEN, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A GOOD TIME! THE FOOD WAS OK. WORST OF ALL WAS THAT THEY INCLUDED OUR TIP (PARTY OF 4) WHAT THE F@CK??? NEVER GO THERE, THERE ARE REAL BEER GARDENS IN QUEENS, BROOKLYN, AND THE UES

  • Pros: NONE
  • Cons: EVERYTHING

Lovely Times

by terrymodina

A friend of mine from college recommended this place to me and I will be forever grateful. Finally a low-key, down to earth restaurant and beergarden with a casual athmosphere, friendly wait service and lest I forget: excellent German chow and great German beers. (12 on tap, more in bottles). Having lived in New York City for 22 years I appreciate the recent proliferation of casual German style beer places and Loreley and Zum Schneider are the pioneers here. If you want the real crazy beergarden vibe a la Oktoberfest, go on the weekends, if you are more into having a conversation during dinner, shoot for the earlier part of the week. I appreciate the middle and Northern areas of Germany more and therefore appreciate the sparse design of Loreley. (I don't miss Lederhosen, Coockoo clocks and Bavarian yodelling at all). This place is modelled after brew pubs of the City of Cologne on the Rhine river. Overall a lovely experience among my favorite in New York.

  • Pros: Great food, extensive beer selection, nice vibe, fun crowd
  • Cons: none

Throw out the rules, the management. Keep the staff (some of them) and you *might* have a good time.

by imorti

I felt like Othello. Upon arrival we were told if we knew the 3 more people inside trying to sit next to us, it was no good. But if they were total strangers, then that was fine. Outrageous. Some of the staff were awesome about it. Some acted like they were doing us a favor. After inquiring, they said "management" would scream at them and that the neighbors would take issue with the volume. Then don't have a beer garden if you oppose merriment. I wouldn't go here if they gave the beer away for free. The food is inedible as well.

  • Pros: good sized beers. For parties of 8 or less you might enjoy.
  • Cons: Service, food, rules, management, attitude and the fact they advertise for parties.
