The disco lights and neon sign at the door undercut this otherwise chill space. What distinguishes Laugh Lounge from the masses is its twice-nightly comedy shows and the sincerely good service from both bartenders and club owners. Enter the red-and-black decorated space to be warmly greeted by the hostess and seated at one of 10 cushy black couches. The barkeep behind the small black bar actually smiles while mixing your choice of basic cocktails. Pre-show, the owner herself escorts patrons to their tables in the performance space downstairs. No-nonsense drinks and laid-back music (played at a…

AWFUL AND WAS LIED TO

by fuelbox

My family met Jeffrey, one of the comedians, in Times Square. He invited us to come out and said that it would be perfectly appropriate for our entire family, even our 2 15-year-old daughters. But when we got there, the jokes mostly consisted of blowjobs, homosexuality, sperm facials and many other off color topics. We left before it was over and when I asked to speak with Jeffrey, he said he didn't have time for me, but would call me. I gave him my number and still haven't heard from him. What a surprise.

So if you like vulgar, non-funny comedy and like to sit uncomfortably in your grandmother's basement with 12 other people, you'll love this place.

Disappointed...Will not EVER return!

by Gigi2011

I had intended to have a great evening at the Laugh Lounge Sunday February 20, 2011, which started out mediocre and worsened as the night progressed. I sat through the first two comedians, but walked out before the 3rd act because of the Emcee Jonathan. The crowd consisted of approximately 20 people, 94% Caucasian. To my recollection there was 4 African Americans including myself. I was accompanied by a friend and we chose not to sit in our assigned front row seats in this two sectional basement seating. Anyhow, the Emcee Jonathan before bringing out the 3rd act said the following: “Why did they seat the two Black women in the back, isn’t it Black History Month?”; “I love karaoke, but I cannot do this to rap music as I cannot say a certain word.” He then came off the stage and pointed his microphone toward the mouth of a Caucasian woman and said “What word is it, you cannot say it either! Another woman within the audience stated “I think it is okay to use the N-word as long as you place an ‘a’ instead of ‘er’. From the back of room, I stated “Although, yet unfortunately some African Americans may choose to use the N-word to greet each other, many within the African American community are not fond of such.” This poor taste of a joke opened up a door that included not only the ignorance of the Emcee, but also a crowd participant, which made the room uncomfortable not only for myself, but a few Caucasians within the audience.

In speaking with the Manager Delilah Ramose, there was no immediate resolve other than an offer of our $ back. Nevertheless, she defended the ignorance displayed. Thus this is an establishment I would not recommend to my African American community who chooses not to embrace ignorance.

Impressed

I entered laugh lounge last friday. The host of the show was Wil Slyvince. The comedians that night were Mike Yard, Michael Troy, and Imagine. All four of them were really funny. I really enjoyed the show, much more than anticipated.

The show took place in the basement of the lounge. Personally, i think the space was a little too small for the amount of people there were. The tables/audience members were too close together, but i was glad my assigned table allowed me to have my back against the wall.

  • Pros: comedians
  • Cons: cluttered
