The Scene
The Time Warner Center's crown jewel surrounds diners with detailed luxury: soft cream leather on the walls, brass and copper tiles on the floor, and tables dressed with layers of fine linens. Service is among the best in the city, and diners are attended to with aplomb.
The Food
As the internationally acclaimed chef of the French Laundry, Thomas Keller has earned a reputation as a perfectionist. Diners benefit from the first taste--miniature sesame cones topped with a scoop of buttery salmon tartare, which arrive as a gift from the kitchen--to the last, gracious nibbles of homemade truffles. In between, dishes like "liver and onions," buttery, tender ramps with lush duck liver pâté; Keller's signature "oysters and pearls" made with tapioca, just-warm oysters, sweet butter and a wealth of caviar; and the genius combination of foie gras, peach jelly and--unexpectedy--young cilantro leaves, sweep diners off their feet.

I`m Brazilian was in New York last April. On 28th . I went to Per Se for dinner with my sister, my mom and some friends and we had a wonderful time. Unfortunately I forgot my wallet with all my documents and $ 800 on the table. I realized that on the other day in the morning and I called the restaurant straight away and I was told my wallet was there. When I came back to pick it up, I could see that all the money had disappeared. I didn´t even have time to complain as the door were closed behind me and nobody answered my calls. I could only contact the manager at the end of the afternoon when he apologized and said he couldn´t do anything, just offered me a free dinner. I felt miserable and shocked, I understand I was in a big city, which can be dangerous and violent, however I know I had left my wallet there and the money was stolen there. What made me even more frustrated are the way I was treated and the quality of the place, also known as an expensive restaurant. The whole bill was $ 2.150.

Managed to get a reservation at Per Se 1 month in advance. I was quite surprise as The French Laundry requires at least a 2 month lead time. I'm wondering if this is just because of the poor economy. The food was great but I had expected a bit more from a 3 Michelin restaurant. Maybe its because they change their menu everyday (?). Whilst beautiful, I found the location a bit strange being in the Time Warner building. I would have thought Thomas Keller would choose a quaint neighborhood Uptown.

The service was excellent, with each dish served, the wait staff was friendly and accomodating. The food was great. At the end of the tasting menu, they displayed what must have been a box of beautiful homade chocolates and they were able to name the filling of each one. They provided a goodie bag to take home and even offered to out in a good word at their sister restaurant in Napa Valley, Laundry, should you want to try that location. The place was clean, I didnt sit there for hours waiting for each course. The food was delicate, tasty and what I would call woth effort. The dishes were prepared with the techinal standard you would expect from a high end restaurant.
