All I have to say is this: Every Time.
What's that mean? Simple. Every SINGLE time I've been to this place has been a more pleasant surprise than the next. True, NYC has something to fit every mood, to fill every plate, please every palate and abide to every need. However, as long as I've been here, I still find it rare to find a place that encompasses all of these things at once. Living around the block has allowed me to sink into I Tre Merli Bistro on several occasions, and I find it does just that.
I have enjoyed Happy Hour drinks at their bar, extremely discounted lunch specials, incredible plates and fabulous wines. Better? I can afford it. Let's be honest, running around trying out all these places takes a toll on the wallet! This is someplace I would and have taken any guest to. From my sweet mother, to a romantic date, to a rowdy group of girlfriends, down to a co-worker and boss. It's intimate, but fun. Loud, but relaxing. Everyone has enjoyed it on each occasion.
Major Suggestion: The Cheese plate. Though I think it's something like $18, it should honestly be more. It has more cheese and flavor than I've seen on any sad excuse for a 'cheese plate' in a long, long time. Definitely not a rip off - THING IS HUGE!
Now I'm hungry.
Check them out on Facebook too!
Great brunch!. I love this place for brunch. Even on the gloomiest of days, it feels bright and airy. The food is great, fresh, great value for the money. And most importantly, you'll love the people: warm, pleasant and polite, they won't rush you or disturb you. A great place to spend a lazy afternoon with a friend.
Food is well prepared, ingredients fresh.
Service attentive, professional, friendly.
Wine list surprising for such a small space.
Loved it. For a neighborhood that borders on obnoxious, this place is a little gem. Rate this Bistro A +
Went to the Bistro last night for the first time. Had a fantastic time - just what we were looking for. Simple, well put together food, casual atmosphere and really knowledgeable service. We didn't feel rushed and felt welcome from start to finish.
Great neighborhood find.
Will definitely return soon.
We were walking around last night hoping to find somewhere cute to eat . We decided on ITM Bistro and loved it! The service was knowledgeable but friendly. It was nice to eat at a restaurant where the servers genuinely seemed to enjoy their work.
Food was great and menu selection surprisingly varied considering how small the bistro is. Add a great bottle of wine to that, and our night was an A+ experience.
Will definitely go back again.
Great Place. A Classic Bistro. Small, with a straight forward menu that doesn't miss. We are there once a week to have a glass of wine and a cheese board and some appetizers or a full meal. The staff is warm and knowledgeable, with a great wine list. We always get the fried mushrooms which are amazing. Pastas are delicious and the menu has something for everyone. Their "sister" restaurant has been around for almost 30 years, they must be doing something right! We are glad they are in our neighborhood.
Cozy spot, friendly staff.
It's true, it is tight, but that's because it's so popular. The food is good Italian fare. I was curoius to see if it was as good as their other, larger place on West Broadway. It certainly is. The atmosphere is upbeat and friendly, our server won us over with good knowledge of the wines and he seemed to be very genuine.
This is a great little family spot in the village. The salami plate and a bottle of wine is great on an early spring evening, and everyone around us seemes to be enjoying their food very much.
good place if u want to get robbed. not gonna lie the food is good sometimes nice italian dishes prepared by mexican cooks the drinks are really good even after they recycle them..i`ve seen them..the servers are amazing specially talking about their customers they are so polite at the table..but watch it when they go mumbling after they serve you..of course they treat you like family they are drunk out of their minds if not they wouldnt spill wine when they serve it..its a really nice place to get high with the staff if u stay after hours u can even snort some coke with the bartender if u tip him well..be careful with the pasta though once i saw it fall on the ground and then they just put it back on the plate and took it to the table like nothing had happened..the steaks are undercooked sometimes and the servers get angry if u send it back..the pasta is good but overpriced..the papardelle is the only good thing and the subs too..the wine selection is big i know but u can find the same bottles for half the price in a liquor store..the chesse board is good if u like beign charged double
A real disappointment.
As a confirmed NYC foodie, I am willing to deal with small spaces and even bad service in return for good food. I Tre Merli unfortuntely was unable to deliver with the latter. Consequently, my wife and two of our friends spent the evening cramped into space the size of a postage stamp, Aside from the extremely small space, don't even try to get up to use the restroom, it requires the entire restaurant to get up from their tables, the service was horrible. In addition to the small space, the music was so loud that any attempt to engage in a conversation is simply futile. The waitstaff was mostly disengaged and the food was disappointing. The appetizers were uninventive and the salads were inedible. I ordered the pappardele which was average, but does not provide nearly enough of a reason to return to this restaurant.
On the plus side, the location is great and the prices are low. If you don't have much of a palate, are on a budget and want to be in the middle of a hip area, I would say that I Tre Merli Bistro would fit the bill. If you are hoping for a little more, then I Tre Merli Bistro is not for you.
Exellent for place for great food and atmosphere. This is the perfect spot for a one-on-one dinner, whether it be with an old friend or a first date - the atmosphere allows for a great conversational meal. Start with the italian cheese and meat cutting board which at $18 is a steal (it is a cutting board piled high with foccacia squares and a variety of delectable meats, cheeses and marmalade). The pastas were delicious (one daily special was penne in red sauce with salmon and asperagus), creative, and perfectly spiced. The waitstaff helpful and attentive. It might feel a bit crowded in the winter, but on a recent summer night, with the windows open, it was just divine.
