Great Value, Amazing Haircut. Benjamin is an amazing stylist. I saw such a dramatic difference in the way my hair looked that I will definitely go back.

Best haircut I ever had in NYC. I've been living in NY for 4 years. I have tried to have a decent haircut for a fair amount of money for quite a long time. Several attempts, no sucess. This last August I was at the Aveda store downtown and I got this coupon for a free haircut at Carsten Salon with Brian Adelman, and I had no expectations whatsoever that it would work out. after all, a free haircut? Can that happen in NY with a good professional? When I called to schedule they said he had a window for that very same day, which made me even more suspicious. Afterall, what are the chances that you find a good hairdresser in the city out of the blue and for free?? I got it.

Brian was really attentive and he managed to hear what I had in mind and suggest some shifts without being pushy. When he started cutting my hair, he seemed to be completely immersed in his work, and so meticulously attentive to the shape of the haircut he was giving me. It was impressive. He took almost 2 hours to finish the job, but it was worth the waiting. And, having passed almost two months, my hair has grown healthy and beautiful, which indicates again he is really a professional.

Now my hair has grown enough that I am going back to see him again - now paying, because, even though this is not the cheapest haircut ever, it will be worth every penny.

THE BEST. I walked into Carsten Salon a few weeks ago because my friend had such a great job done there by Brian Adelman. I was visiting town from TO and could really use a change of style. After seeing the great work he did on my friend I told him to do whatever he thinks would look good. He was so careful and paid great attention to detail. My hair is stunning and i will be going down to NY just to see Brian for my hair cuts and colour....don't think I will ever use anyone else.

Hair Stylist: Brian Adelman. Brian Adelman cuts and styles hair at the Union Square Carsten hair salon. He's has lots of expierence creating new styles and has personally cut my hair. Once he told me his ideas I immediately had full confidence in him and his vision. He turned me into a guy who's hair matches my personality and my style. Kudos to whoever tought this man how to cut hair. I advice anyone who's reading this review to head to the city and find out for yourself what this man can do for your hair.

Best Haircut ever!. I went to Carsten's for color and a haircut. Brian came highly recommended. He was extremely nice, and I even went for highlights, for the first time in my life! It looks fabulous, and natural.

My haircut is so good that I can manage it myself!

You must go to Carsten's Salon, and ask for Brian!!!

Haircut left me in tears.. WORST haircut of my life. I am so unhappy and will be until my hair grows enough for me to get this mess fixed somewhere else. I had an appointment with William, who ruined my layers and cut the ends into a stringy mess. When I went back to have the terrible cut "fixed," the OWNER hacked off 4-5 inches of my hair and left me with an unmanageable cut that is impossible to style. My fine hair lays flat and the layers are destroyed. I will be wearing my hair up in a bun for the next 6 weeks at least. DO NOT patronize this terrible salon. I have been in tears for a week over this.

Amazing colour! Perfect cut!. I bought some products at the Aveda store and got a voucher for a haircut with Brian. I needed to get my colour redone as well as I haven't touched it since I moved to NYC from Germany 9 months ago.

Well long story short, Brian gave me the best most vibrant red I have ever had! It is so shiny and fantastic, I can not stop looking at it! He gave me such a beautiful and trendy cut as well! It feels so light and I am getting compliments and stares every where I go.

They have a very friendly atmosphere and lovely space. I would recommend this salon to anyone. And ask for Brian!!!

avoid this place. I'd avoid this salon at all costs. they charge upscale prices for a very low end operation. Be warned! My stylist actually washed my hair, the receptionist was unfriendly and the whole experience was not very pleasant.

Best cut of my life!. I planned to get my haircut at the hair school for a price of $19. However, all the students had a meeting and I was told that a stylist would be doing my hair (free of charge) and I would just have to tip her. That was really a sigh of relief because I was petrified about a random student chopping up my hair! I was escorted to the salon and met by a friendly young receptionist who took my jacket and offered me something to drink. 5 minutes later, I was greeted by a pretty tall blonde Hispanic woman named Alexa. I showed her a few pictures of the styles that I wanted and she chose the one that would work best. Alexa was friendly, confident, knowledgeable and quick. She transformed my ratty ponytail into a mirror image of Heidi Klum's shaggy bob - mind you I am African-American and my hair looks exactly like Heidi's now! I am so impressed and will be going back again! I am so happy I found a new hairstylist! THANK YOU ALEXA!!!
