Thank you Carsten. I'm a transfer student that went to carsten with the goal of finishing beauty school but wat I left with was more then 1000 hours completed. I really felt that I learned so many things that I probably would have never learned anywhere else like the french cutting technique taught by carsten himself which is an honor to work with someone hand to hand that is so talented and exprienced. You aslo learn how to mix color from scratch which is an amazing experience. I went into the institute as a lost person trying to find her path in the hair industry and was able to acomplish not only find myself but I was taught what it took get started with the help of some really great teacher who are not just there to teach but to listen and learn from you as much as you learn from them. Even when you get frustrated and are ready to give up they push you and help you overcome those issues. I miss them so much. There is so many more great things I could say about this school but I don't city srearch have enough space. So thank you carsten for helping me find my way.

Appointments. I've been to the school for a cut before and had a great experience. My second time, I mistakenly went to the salon instead of the school and had a cut done by a teacher, who decided what she wanted to do, and how. I was stuck with a lop-sided haircut for months.

Today, I tried to make an appointment. The appointment maker asked me what time I wanted and when I said, "later in the day either today or tommorow" she was very condescending and said, "This is a school, Sweetie. We leave at 1:30." When I told her that the website said that appointments went until 4:30, she became even more cocky.

That was the last time I will ever call Carstens. I feel badly for the students there, since the faculty and staff is so obnoxious.

amazing cut and color. i came here recently for a full head of highlights and a cut and it turned out so, so well. my hair was an absolute freaking mess and omar, my stylist, fixed all the major problem points: lowlights and ashier highlights to even out the orange / yellow tones in my hair, and trimmed the layers to get rid of the dryness. really can't recommend this salon enough!!

French Haircutting Techniques performed by Prof. Students. I recently went with a friend to Carsten Aveda Institute and had the best experience of my life. I was considering getting a haircut and color done but could not decide what I wanted. The student assigned provided me with an updated cut and color. Wow is all that I can say. I met with two instructors since they are soooo busy attending to ALL incoming clients. Everyone gets the same level of attention and a customized look according to your face shape, skin tone, etc.. :) The instructors approved what the student recommended and it was all a success. I've gone to high end salons and paid a lot for my cuts and color and Carsten Aveda Institute provided me with quality haircolor and cut). I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

My friend had the same experience as I did. It all was a success. Although it may take just a little longer, the students are training and will provide you with the very best quality cut and/or color. No one leaves looking the same. The student informed that they are trained very thoroughly by Carsten Wilms and his Professional Instructors to bring each client an individual look!!! The student was graduating and was hired by a high-end salon. The quality performed speaks for itself. :)

Brandy is Fab!!!!!. Brandy is going to graduate soon --but if you can get an appointment with her in the next week I would highly reccomend her.

My color took extra time but she was so wonderful that I enjoyed it.

The staff and students are very friendly and relaxed.

I have gotten many compliments on my hair

The price is very reasonable

4 hours that change my style and color Thanks Andrew. I made the appointment because my friend Lisa recommend me this School she likes the services and the price.

I will come back to get services with the students at Carsten Aveda, My appointment was at 8:30 am very icy weather, the front desk receptionist ask me to sign the proper form and paid for the services (the price was definitively inexpensive I'm on a budget I just finish college and I don?t make a lot of money ) A very polite and professional student ask me to follow him to his station. he listen to my concerns and did help me to decide the color and the cut that was perfect for my type of face ( very round) , around 11 am another student came to take over the process because my first young gentlemen was going to class The Instructors help with the color and check the hair cut at the beginning and at the end. The best was the hand massage very relaxing experience that I expend 4 hours but the result was great!!!!

Perfect price, great location, No tips on credit cards (I went to the bank to get some cash to tip my 2 students) I will try the spa school next time Recommend!!

collection of tools. It's a looong story, and the bulk of my experience was bad, but I should mention that the student who did my hair did a wonderful job: she was patient, asked the right questions, and gave me a blow-out after (I had highlights done). I'll never go back, though, nor will I recommend it to anyone else. The Aveda people did not want to help. Couldn't? Perhaps it's a lack of ability to com-mu-ni-cate? I was COMPLETELY floored by the lack of communication skills and the inability to assist a paying customer (yeah, it's super inexpensive, but aren't courtesy and listening skills part of being a professional???). I have never written one of these things before, I'm usually pretty forgiving of any kind of poor service (It happens! That's fine! People have bad days. I get irritated but usually it's over within a few minutes--plus, usually it's one person who can't seem to get it together, but this time I was surrounded by complete and utter uselessness. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone). Carsten Institute is a big, fat toolbox. I never, ever think people should be fired--I now have a list. Go down to the Aveda Institute on Spring St. instead.

services for bargain. I have used the school since it first opened, and have almost always been very happy. Don't forget these people are students, sometimes you get a newbie, and other times you get a seasoned student ready to graduate, but I have always felt the students and staff have tried to make me happy.

the school opened there 3rd floor, skin care, the students and teacher could not have been nicer. I loved how much I felt like I was getting a hundred dollar service for pennies. Dreamy! If only they would do pedicures, I would spend my whole day there.

Great deal for less. I had a highlights and a facial and it was wonderful. the price was right and I felt like I spent the afternoon taking care of myself....Thank you very much to the Carsten Staff and Students...

Very Rude Customer Service. Trying to make an appointment at this salon was beyond frustrating. I tried to inquire further about services (given that they don't seem to have a website) and the woman told me she needed to "speed this conversation up, there are a lot of people waiting in line." According to my cell phone our entire conversation was 1 minute and 58 seconds. Then when I booked my appointment she didn't even ask for my name and went to hang up the phone. They should really monitor who represents their salon. I'm skeptical to even show up for this appointment.
