Carsten Institute is one of the best hair schools you can go to in Arizona, if you don't think so try and go to Artistic or some other beauty school. It seems to me that the people complaining may have just gotten students who just started but think about it, they are students. Their classwork is to cut your hair. Practice makes perfect. Don't go to a school if you are expecting a quick service either. I also suggest asking for a girl who is about to graduate or in gamma if you want to get a service that is about as good as any high end salon for less then half the price.

Pros: inexpensive, students who are more excited to do hair, changing stylists

I used to consider this place my find of finds- to the point where I'd commute from my new office (Wall St) or home (Brooklyn) just for a great $150 cut for $15, which it honestly was- tricky cuts, like a complicated bob or perfect layers. But my last two appointments have been honest to God disasters. Maybe because I've tried evening appointments with the part-timers? Or they've changed instructors? No idea. But I waited 20 minutes for my appointment, the "stylist" was clueless and completely green, and the instructor who is supposed to undo any potential disasters was asking *ME* what she should do next. What?! Needless to say I'm disappointed, and a third try would render me wholesale stupid. I guess I'm back to $70 haircuts? Sigh.

Pros: Good location, stylists use great Aveda products

Cons: Disorganized/double booking?, hopeless stylist trainees, lousy/mediocre "instructors"
