Step past the Ferraris parked out front and make your way into the candlelit lounge and dining room, where tanned scenesters sip spendy cocktails and pose in their designer duds. DJs spin pulsing house music, and there's an unabashed "look at me" vibe throughout, encouraged only by the Versace micro-skirt uniforms female servers wear, which come dangerously close to revealing a bit too much. Diners are prompted to order several shareable dishes which, considering the food isn't what's drawing most of the crowd, are surprisingly good.

As much as I love the west village, the meatpacking district has always been a neighborhood I've avoided. My best friend and I decided to eat at ONE before going to galleries in Chelsea and had a wonderful time. The bread was so delicatable and almost melted in our mouths. The waiter advised us to order a couple of entrees and share, so we ordered the sliders and pizza. I expected the entrees to be small but I was stuffed. We also ordered the chocolate cake, and that was incredible too. The wait staff was extremely attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant, even though the area is filled with B & T. We went on a Thursday night at around 7 and we had the place to ourselves.

I went here for a party and had a decent time. I liked the lounge atmosphere in the middle of the room. While quarters are a little tight, having a seating area was helpful. The music was decent but the cramped quarters leave little room for dancing other than bobbing your head to the beats. As for the drinking/eating, I can't comment on the food since I didn't try any. Getting the drinks took a little time to get bartenders attention but service on a busy night was good. The only negative was the coat check. Most coat checks in concert venues/bars take a little time to serve the customers, but I find it hard to believe that it would take a half hour with a line of 15-20 people.

I went to One the other night and had a great time. If you are looking for a bar/lounge atmosphere, it is a great place to go. Beautiful space, nice crowd, and great music. I just bought tickets to the New Years Eve party at One on www.NearCorner. com. It should be a great party.

Look Good:
The oyster and champagne bar holds 40, or host your private party for up to 70 in the sexy cellar downstairs. Of course, VIPs can hold court in their own elevated lounge just off of the main bar area.
