We had a splendid dinner at the Megu. The atmosphere was very pleasant, quiet and the service was outstanding. Our waiter cared for every little detail.
The food was phenomenal: Very creative, tasty and well prepared.
I would highly recommend this not only for sushi, seafood or steak. The variety is incredible.
gotta love it!. as a regular customer at Megu, gotta say, everything is just so good! Prompt seating after confirming the reservation, food is just to die for and excellent wait staff! love this place!!!! checked out megu midtown but still prefer tribeca location. can't wait to go back!
mediocre food for $$$$. Simply overrated and pretentious with all its ambiance and decor while the food is so mediocre. it could have been a busy evening but who knows the place is so grand that you hardly have the feeling that it is packed, but our food took almost an hour to be served, and it was not worth the wait. the raw kobe beef, which is one of their signature dishes, was frozen, and what's most incredible is that it made it through to our table in this state. i took a family member there who had just arrived from overseas and with the jet lag kicking in, it was just exhausting and disappointing to have to wait for so long for bad food. the tuna tartare was so salty that i started craving the one from "yakitori taisho". Unless you want to impress someone who does not care about food, this place is to be avoided since it will leave you with a very light wallet and a crying stomach. or just take someone there for expensive but alright drinks. next time, i will take my brother to tomoi sushi or yakitori taisho or shabu tatsu. this was a NYC experience to try but not to repeat!

When I went to MEGU restaurant a year ago, it was amazing experience and really great service and energy....we went back again few weeks ago but this time it was HORRIBLE experience and everything was over charged and food was soso. It was totally rip off !!!!
I will not go back again.
Horrible Service Not Worth the Price!!!. Do not waste your time and money at this place. The wait staff is incredibly slow, inexperienced and rude. I came with a large party that was seated rather fast. However, it took over an hour for our food to arrive with the waiter disappearing for long periods of time. The food was average in taste, despite the outrageous prices. When we finally received the bill, I noticed we were charged for pre-dinner drinks purchased earlier at the bar. I explained this was already paid to the waiter who proceeded to call me a liar and to prove it by providing a receipt. I again tried to explain that it was paid for with cash and unfortunately the bartender did not provide a receipt. The waiter continued to argue with me until I asked him to speak with the bartender and the manager on duty that witnessed the payment.. After confirming that I had in fact paid the bill, the waiter never apologized. When I complained to the manager about the customer service, she told me and I quote "this is his first night, give him a break!" I highly recommend not/not eating here. Customer service is non-existent.
We have recently moved to New York.Luckily we live in Manhattan that has so many good restaurants to try. Megu was our next stop after Nobu. And to our surprise MEGU raised the bar even further!
We were completely bowled by the hospitality and efficiency of the staff, when the food arrived we loved the place even more.Entire team works like a piano, the guy who was running the most, talking to everyone from sweeper to guests turned out to be the General Manager, Mr. Sean Scottini, what a gentleman!
Mr.Jim Clarke was the walking encyclopedia of wines, he spent a while with us figuring what type of wine would suit us the most? Very nice of him. In conjunction Mr. Ramsey Metcalf the captain kept the food coming at the right interval.
We would go again and again to Megu as much as we can afford it.
Untrained waitstaff - very poor service.
Our waiter Susan took our order and disappeared for the rest of the night. We were served the wrong dish and when we told the staff, they said they will "check on it" with no result. We never got our appetizer until the very end - one piece of tuna tartar which they claimed they were "working on it" the entire night. We had ordered wine and we had to repeatedly ask someone to pour more since it was placed in a bucket outside our reach. Our glasses of water and wine was empty most of the night. After the main course, our table was cleared but no one came around with the dessert until we asked for it four timest. The table next to ours had the same problem with the service - their appetizer - a piece of asparagus never came until the very end and only after repeated inquiries. Apparently they were also "working on it" the whole night next to my one piece of tuna tartar.
We finally got a hold of our waistress at the very end and when we mentioned the poor service she said "We have three kitchens in the back and your orders are from different kitchens." Of course a properly trained waitress would not say that and she would know that it was her job to make sure everyone is served at the same time. Plus a waistress should also make sure your water glass is never empty and come around to refill the wine glass when there is 1/3 or less left. And most importantly, a waistress should always be available when your dishes are first serve and be available and attentive to her guests.
The final straw came when we were complaining to our waiter SUSAN about the service and she said "What else do you want now besides consolation?" Yes, she actually said that.
Finally we spoke to the manager who gave us free glass of champagne and some dessert for free. They still billed us the full amount for the whole meal - even thought we basically had to serve ourselves considering the lack of service we had.
For an fine dining establishment, I cannot believe how unprofessional and untrained their staff was. Considering how expensive MEGU was, the least they can do is have proper service.
NOT RECOMMENDED and I suggest the staff be trained properly. Very poor service.
Horrible Service, Lackluster Food. I was actually shocked by the entire experience. We had a reservation and when we arrived, we were seated right away by the hostess. However, the server disappeared after taking our order and we had to flag down random servers to check on the status of our order. We were told that they would look into it, but never got an explanation. An hour into the everning, we received food we had not ordered and did not receive food we had ordered. We flagged down our waitress, who told us that she was really busy and gave us a major attitude. 2 hours into the evening, we were still waiting for a sessert menu. We then spoke with management and were given a comp item. The food was only slightly better than the atrocious service. I would not ever return here, and frankly, I am hesitant to trust that any highly-rated establishment will live upto its reputation.
Stylish Japanese Elegance. The decor was perfectly inviting. The food was flavorful. I especially liked the choices for appetizers, entrees, and sakes. However, desserts seemed like an afterthought as it appears they outsource their desserts. The service was adequate not memorable. The little things that separate great service from average service are apparent. Megu left our water glasses empty for long stretches. The servers were slightly noticeable because they always interrupted the conversations to ask if they can take away obviously empty plates. The waiter although attentive seemed overly staged and practiced. Megu is definitely on my fave list but has the potential to be better.
Good from far, far from good!!!.
Went last night for Restaurant Week. By far the Biggest dissapointment in a restaurant ever. What didn't go wrong. Rerservations at 9.15pm, didn't get seated till around 9.45 or so. Then we got seated at a table that didn't fit our party (too cramped). It took them almost 20 min to get the next table ready. After seated, they thought they would need to change the waitor since it was a different area. The old waiter took the order but never put it in (waiting for the other waitor). Here we are waiting for our appetizers and drinks. Neither come. Then the appetizers come and they are mostly wrong. Most of us ordered Snapper Salad, but somehow the Chef felt the fish wasn't a good piece of fish, so they took Snapper of the menu for the rest of the night and subsittuted our snapper with salmon. However, our waitor failed to inform us of the change and they just assumed we all wanted salmon.
Then they offered a different dish instead of the appetizer and tried to call it "complimentary aspparagus". How is compelementary when you are substituting?? Anyway, after that came the drinks (which were ok, just mediocre). Could've bought the wine better myself!! So this is all already 2 horus into our experience, comes the main course. The Kobe Steak was good, not great, just good. (the smallest piece on earth for the $$, my friends daughter eats more and she is 2)!
Then came the desert, most of us had the cheesecake. It was by far the best thing of the night, but Juniors makes it better!! Im pretty sure it wasn't made there..lol.
Sad to say that this place was a place where everyone of every race doesn't get treated the same.
So overall it was a pretty horrific experience at Megu! I would never go there again, let alone recommend it to anyone. We left hungry and dissapointed. The manager took off a small portion of the tab, which I believe should've been half off for all the crap you have to deal with in a high end restaurant.
Suggestion...go to TAO or Asia De Cuba before this place!!!
