Editorial Review for North West – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Patrons settle into cozy booths to peruse the bistro men. Dishes include fettuccini, sashimi and refined comfort-food creations, such as the filet mignon soaked in portobello-merlot sauce with creamy mashed potatoes. The late-night crowd, however, heads straight upstairs to the cocktail lounge. Exposed brick peeks through the humidors that line the walls, and buzzed romancers snuggle on couches and nibble on midnight snacks.

What to Drink

If you're not in the mood for a stogie, opt for a signature drink like the Century, an inspired concoction of pear brandy, fresh lime juice and citrus soda.

It's obvious that the restaraunt was going through a turbulent period when these other reviews were posted. However, it seems that that period was necessary to yield the amazing restaraunt that it is now. I almost didn't want to write a review in hopes it will remain Manhattan's best kept secret. My boyfriend and I go back every month on the 13th (our anniversary) since it is one of the restaraunts we first ate at. A year and a quarter strong, I attribute the relationship's success to the mulitple times we have dined at this gem. I have never had better food, better drinks, better service, better wine, or a better romantic atmosphere. If you are a "foody" and enjoy leisurely, luxurious meals, you will undoubtedly fall in love with this place. Whether you order the pink cod special flown in from Fiji, or a simple mushroom ravioli, you will melt with the first bite of this talented chef's masterpiece. Plus...you might see Matt Dillon.

Pros: Ambience, Open Late, Great Service, Impeccable Food, Great Drinks and Wine Selection

Cons: Pleasure-overload!

1,000 restaurants have been waiting for North West to move out so they can move in. The wait staff is notorious for being under-trained and constantly changing due to poor management. Known among the other UWS eateries for its under the table deals, North West is not worth your time. Even when the restaurant is half-empty they still take an hour between bringing you your entree and your appetizer. Also, don't bother asking to have your food altered in anyway. You will only get a roll of the eyes. Save your money and avoid it at all cost.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Bad service, cold food, long waits.
