Editorial Review for Mandarin Oriental New York – by Sandra Ramani

The Scene
Guests check in at the stunning lobby with its cathedral ceiling, perched 35 floors above the city. This level also houses French-Japanese restaurant Asiate, MOBar, the lobby lounge and the super-luxe day spa. One floor up, find event rooms, business facilities and a 75-foot, naturally lit lap pool. Discreet elevators whisk guests up to the 248 luxurious rooms, including 46 suites, boasting limitless views of Central Park, the Hudson River and the city skyline.

The Details
Located on floors 35 through 54 of the Time Warner Center, the well-sized state-of-the-art rooms make the most of their heavenly vantage point; all include floor-to-ceiling windows, and many feature soaking tubs with views. The modern, comfortable decor mixes Asian aesthetics (lovely fabrics, clean lines, beautiful presentation) with high-end technology. Bathrooms have oversized marble tubs, glass-walled showers and mini flat-screens. Stellar, friendly service makes it all feel--if not look--like home.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

My husband and I spent a romantic weekend at the Mandarin! One side of room had enormous windows that had a breathtaking view of Central Park. It was amazing!!! The service was great, and hotel guests are able to priority book tables at their bar/lounge which also has amazing views. Close by in the Time Warner Center, we ate at Masa and Cafe Grey-both incredible restaurants (of course you have easy access to all of NYC too!) I booked a couple spa appointments. I had a thai massage that was fantastic although 3 times as expensive as anything else I have ever paid for. This is the only downside of the Mandarin-even for NYC-this place is insanely $$$. If you have the money though, it is worth it!!

Pros: Design, Views, Location, Service, Spa

Cons: The price

I booked a room at the Mandarin for one night. I arrived at the hotel at check-in time and was informed that my room was not ready yet. I didn't mind, so I just hung out for a while. When I checked back at the front desk, they told me I'd have to wait a little longer. A few minutes later, they handed us our keys and when I got to the room I realized we were treated to an upgrade (I'm assuming b/c of the wait). The service here is so pleasant and the room itself was beautiful. I don't think you could have a bad stay at this hotel... it's one of NYC's finest!!!

Pros: Great Service, Attentive Staff, Views of the City and River

Cons: Expensive
