GREAT PLACE. Even after reading the 1 star reviews, with couple of my other friends I went to dine in at Chinese Mirch. Had a great experience; the infusion of Chinese food and Indian flavor was amazing concept. With amazing food and a very friendly staff, we were much delighted as this Chinese-Indian restaurant was one of the best restaurant that I have dined in so far.

Worst Service and Shift Manager Refused to Give Me His Name. I have been a customer of this establishment since 2005. A few years ago, Chinese Mirch was great. NOW THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. I ordered lunch today, and the fried rice had very few vegetables and egg, and tasted old. It was mostly white rice tossed with sriracha sauce with 6 pieces of scallion tossed on top. The hot and sour soup, which is supposed to have "paneer and shitake mushrooms" had NO shitake mushroom, and about 4 1/2 centimeter size pieces of paneer--it was completely substanceless. I called the restaurant and explained that the food quality was abysmal--especially since I had paid $11 for the rice, $4 for the soup, and a $3 tip. Instead of apologizing, the shift waiter was defensive and asked me to leave work during my lunch hour and bring the food back if I want a refund. I was livid and explained to him that this is not how I had planned to spend my lunch hour. then he backtracked and told me to put the food back and he would have someone pick it up and give me a refund. No offer to bring me fresh food as well. Since I've been a customer forever, I asked for his name in order to send a letter about the bad service, and to talk to someone I have known for years who's in managment. The shift manager today who picked up the phone REFUSED to give me his name and when I asked again, laughed nervously and told me, "My name isn't important." I told him that it is to me because of the bad service, and he said, "I'm sending someone to pick up the food," and then abruptly hung up. Chinese Mirch, I'm never coming back, telling all of my friends about the terrible experience. I'm Indian American and have eaten at the best Indo-Chinese places from Delhi to Mumbai, and believe me, they don't even get the sauces right anymore. Go to Tangra Masala--the food is actually excellent there, and it's worth the hike to Queens. Don't pay three times as much for spiced white rice, water, and terrible service at Chinese Mirch.

Bad Food, Worse Service. I loved this place and have eaten there regularly since it opened about six years ago. But it has gone down hill in the last few years - the staff is condescending (like the owners/managers we now never see), the quality of food has slipped dramatically, there is absolutely no attention to detail or service, and I have seen numerous instances of regular guests being treated with disdain by the indifferent staff.

The quest of the owners to expand/franchise locations has now made this formerly great place, yet another curry-hill churn and burn fixture. And the food is not inexpensive by any means. Further, I have dozens of instances where no one on the staff wants to do anything 'extra' in terms of service, because, as one of them told us, they fear retribution from their main guy/boss/chef who is very "dictatorial" and hence the low quality of service due to low morale. So why do I go back - I like their version of Indian food (it is NOT Chinese food) and enjoy the Murray Hill area.

But, starting with scared-looking (yet indifferent) staff (no water when you sit down until you ask for it), rudely answering the phone, ill-tempered service, mediocre, overpriced food (that was initially great when the owners used to be there personally), messed up orders and indifferent attitude (specially the tall, slick guy at the bar occasionally), Chinese Mirch, has become too good for itself. I think the upcoming Indian-Chinese restaurant in the area will break their monopoly and perhaps get all of us foodies better food and service from new competition.

Otherwise, we will continue to suffer the torment of bad food and worse service under this now-commercialized and over-extended wanna-be chain!!!

great place. I went there with my family. It was a nice place with a nice food. Staff is very welcoming and atmosphere is very warm. Our waiter was helpful, I just wish that he would smile more, he seemed too serious. Other than that, I love the place.

good food. Great food... decent service. Okay prices.

We go a few times a year and often when we have guests in town. It's always a hit.

Excellent Indian-Chinese - if you like either, you'll love!. I love Indian-Chinese and it's hard to find the real deal - typically have to head over to Edison, NJ. Chinese Mirch is great, and a lot easier to get to.

I'm confused by all the one star reviews - either this place is very erratic (possible - only been once so far, though expect to go back often!) or something else is going on (e.g., if you aren't into really spicy, or are totally used to "regular" Indian or "regular" Chinese, this place will seem odd and disorientating.

Spicy blends of Pan-Asian flavors.. The dishes at this Flatiron eatery pay homage to both Chinese and Indian cooking.

terrible, unethical service. I have never complained about a restaurant in a public forum, but I feel that the service i received at Chinese Mirch was so offensive that it should be made known. During our dinner, icy cold water from the overhead AC rained on me. I alerted the waiter, who did nothing to help even though I was left standing, dripping wet, in the middle of the restaurant. After 10-15 minutes of this awkwardness, we got fed up waiting and requested for the bill and a doggy bag for our remaining food. Our dinner experience thus ruined, the manager did not even have the courtesy to take anything off our bill and only cut out the $5 rice after we insisted. This doesn't even qualify for poor, inattentive service -- unethical, cheapskating customers would be more appropriate.
