“This is a good place if you have a small party”
“Unfortunately, after a recommendation from a friend, four of us came for the first time to receive the worst service we have ever had in the city.”

The worst service. The manager did not acknowledge us when we got there only after the bus boy did that he turn around and acknowledge our presence. We sat and 15 min pass by and no waiter came to take our order. Only after we ask the bus boy to call the waiter that this female waiter came with an attitude very non chalant she took our order and did not mention the specials. That was the last time she came to our table because she spend most of the time hugging the manager. We wanted more wine but we did not have a waiter again we have to ask the bus boy to call the waiter. Food came and no wine and no spoons for our pasta. Food sat cold waiting for wine and spoons. It took 2 more attempts to get the wine and spoons and even after that no apologies or excuses. We ask for the check and of course we have to call the bus boy again to call the waiter to get our check. And again no apologies.
Hidden Gem. Primitivo is one of the "best deals in town." The dinner menu featured a host of several small plates "prepared to order" perfect for those who wish to try several items to fully plated entrees, a la carte specialties and an assortment of other side dishes. My two favorite small plates were the marinated meatballs in basil pesto and wine, and the soft polenta with sweet sausage and wild mixed mushrooms...ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS! The menu also offered a variety of vegetarian selections, which tempted my zen palate. I had the ravioli stuffed with herbed goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and pink vodka sauce, YUMMUS!. They also had an extensive selection of great Italian wines that complemented the meal very well. A hidden gem on the border between (Chelsea and the West Village).
An Affordable Cut Above the Rest. I have been dining at Primitivo since it opened, and it has only gotten better over the years. In fact, it is one of my favorite places to eat for several reasons. First, and foremost, the food is excellent. My favorite dish is the lemon chicken, which is on the lunch menu. Second, the atmosphere is inviting and casual. They recently did a nice job remodeling the interior of the restaurant. Third, the servers are very attentive, without being obtrusive. Oh--I almost forgot--the cappuccinos are the best!!!
My old fav is my new fav!. So, I've been going to Primitivo since it opened. The staff always made me feel welcome.. & are a bit flirty, which we love!, & the food & wine ~it's always an awesome evening! In the last year or so it was starting to feel a bit stodgy, you know, same ol same o, & not working with the excitement of the neighborhood... Well! How excited was I on my last visit! The decor is all new, all the stodgness is gone! & they're experimenting with new dishes as well as keeping up with the favorites I've always loved! My old favorite place in the west village is now my new favorite! & how fun to bring my friends here after checking out the galleries & shops!
Go here only if you're on a diet. This place was terrible. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. I ordered a mozzarella/prosciutto appetizer for $14, and when it arrived, I received 3 small slices of mozzarella, two thin slices of prosciutto, and 3 slices of tomatoes. The pasta dishes are around $16, and when my meal arrived, my food was served in a huge dish, and I received a child's size portion. I've never had a huge appetite, and usually I have leftovers after dining out, but I was actually STARVING after I left this place. I complained to our waiter about my miniscule portion, and he shrugged it off and asked me if I wanted to order an additional entree. Um, no, I would like to get what I paid for. Needless to say, I will NEVER eat here again. I would suggest only going to eat here if you're on a diet and are watching your food portions.
Boring Menue. This restaurant used to be GREAT. BUT, they changed the menu and raised the prices and made the portions smaller. It is now just a common everyday Restaurant. The food is still terrific, but not worth the money. It would have been all right if they raised their prices, but to raise the prices, make the portions one third the size is ridiculous. Also, all the favorites are off the menu. Now everything is al la carte. There are many other Restaurants in the area that are less expensive and have food that is just as good. It really is too bad that with the economy the way it is that the Management decided to make these changes. This used to be a place that you could go to a couple of times a week and enjoy great food and good services. Now it is to expensive to be a casual event.
Great Stuff. Primitivo is simply an excellent choice for Italian food in the West Village. They have very good prices, a nice wine selection and down to earth people who work there. I'd definitely go back again.
Great Service!. OMFG I had the best service ever in this place! My waiter was extremely attentive and funny and nice and...well, HOT, that never hurts:-) The atmosphere is excellent and the food is delicious. Good price and music. I have absolutely no complaints about this restaurant, I will be back!! next time I'll get the name of my favorite waiter so that I can post it here and recommend to all of you.
very nice. had a dinner for 6 here. It was early so it wasn't very crowded, but the place is very nice inside, staff is friendly. Attentive, fine service. The chicken parm is very good, as was the mozzerella tomato basil app and ceaser salad. We had made arrangements for the bill to be paid beforehand, providing them with a credit card before dinner, but they seemed to be confused by that, and we had to get up from the table to go deal with it. We had made that arrangement beforehand so it wouldn't inturrupt the experience, but that didn't happen. It just drew more attention to the bill. The final bill was more than expected and didn't quite add up to what we ate/ordered but we just paid it to avoid even more attention to the bill. Be aware they add gratuity for parties of 6, which is pretty standard. Drinks were good and arrived quickly. Overall a positive experience with good food.
Very good rustic italian pizza. Best rustic pizza, antipast, salads we have found. We had a large party all from out of town and they were very accomodating and responsive to email questions. The specials were exceptional
