In Short – This Indian bistro is stylish and vibrant, with orange-and-red walls and exotic aromas wafting from the kitchen. Dine on food adapted from Goa, Punjab and southern India, including Goan veggie curry and Murg Tikka Lababdar--chicken tikkas braised in a creamy tomato sauce. Desserts include a homemade mango ice cream and kheer, a cardamom- and saffron-flavored rice pudding.

Awful Food

by sparkling1211 at Citysearch

I had huge craving for Idli(Steamed rice cakes) & Sambar cause I am preg. I had the food to go. When I got back to my work I was DISAPPOINTED to see BURNT Idlis. Their coconut chutney as well as tomato chutney tasted AWFUL. Over priced for nothing. I totally wouldn't recommend anyone to eat food here.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Recently, my husband chipped his tooth on a "boneless chicken" sandwich. We were never quite sure what he chipped it on (gristle, cumin seed, etc.) since we were focusing on the fact that 1/4 of his molar had been knocked out by something! The waiter immediately became defensive, denying any responsibility for it. They didn't charge us for the meal but when my husband called the manager to discuss the situation they were extremely rude, obnoxious, and irrational! All my husband wanted was the copay for the required bonding, which was $10. For him, it was the principle of the matter, not the money. Luckily, he did not need more dental work! When he called Bevis (manager) AND the owner, they blamed it on him, telling him that his tooth was bad. The owner actually hung up on my husband, refusing to write him a mere check for $10. I have never had an experience like this in all my New York City dining years! Please please never eat here or any of their other restaurants!

Not going back for sure

Lunch box portion is very small. You only get one dish that tasted bland. Not worth the wait nor the price.

Fallen and can't get up...

by romano115 at Citysearch

I used to like this place, but now I?m going elsewhere. The service has deteriorated to the point of unacceptability. My last experience was ordering take-out. The person who answered the phone seemed annoyed; as did the waiter when I came in to pick up the food (the place was empty too). He grunted at me, never told me an amount, and never said thank you, even after I thanked him. The food had no taste either. NYC has too much competition to deal with sub-par standards.

  • Pros: Interesting menu, better ambience than most Indian in NYC
  • Cons: Inconsistent food, moody, ungrateful service

Very good food...

I love cafe spice for the food. The entree comes in a platter with some salad, dal/lentils, vegetable, rice, and nan. I have been going there for the last two years after having gone to the downtown location, and have not been disappointed. However, my favorite food is from the one at Grand Central, only they don't deliver.

I would recommend this place, and it is less busy than the downtown location.

  • Pros: Very good food
  • Cons: None
