Editorial Review for Crave – by Justin Hartung
The Scene
Blink and you'll miss this tiny restaurant in the heart of Carroll Gardens. There are only a handful of tables, but the upside is that the atmosphere is so cozy, diners feel like they're eating in someone's living room. A comfy banquette in the window and light fixtures (designed by one of the chefs) complete the intimate vibe.
The Food
Crave's two chefs have resumes that boast stints at Payard, Nobu and Industry (food), so it's no surprise their menu is full of unusual twists on old favorites. Tender arctic char is cooked in a parchment paper package with winter vegetables and just a smattering of dried plums. Rich pan-seared duck is accompanied by brussels sprouts so tender and flavorful, they'll win over the most ardent sprout haters. Do not under any circumstances leave without trying the rum cake, topped with a surprisingly perfect shaving of Parmesan cheese.

Just tried Crave for the first time since I moved to the neighborhood and regret not going sooner. Great atmosphere with good music that still allowed me to have a conversation with my friends, who were very impressed. We tried a little bit of everything, which was the way to go. The brie tart was fantastic, we also had the shumai with wasabi, and the croquettes which melted in my mouth. I had the salmon, which had to be the most creative plate I've eaten in a while! It had a purple sweet potato and small sausages on the side, and the fish was cooked to perfection. My friends had the chicken and Ribeye, both beatiful plates. For dessert we were recommended the chocolate chili cake, and it was to die for! The waitress also explained to us about their tasting menus, and that will be a must for next time. Overall was a great experience and I was very happy with everything. We were treated to a course of small soups before our main courses, a touch that made the night all the more special and the service attentive. Go Crave!
Pros: food you'll remember
Cons: make a reservation

I was so excited for crave. Our party of three consisted of huge foodies, both of the vegetarian and carnivorous variety. We ordered a variety of things. The food was not as creative as it claimed. Sides and apps were under-seasoned. It was just kind of boring. The wine list was decent. Space is cute, but I wouldn't crave Crave again. Though the service was friendly, it was inattentive, which is hard to swallow considering that we were only 3 of 5 people in the restaurant.
Pros: cute neighborhood/space
Cons: the food was disappointing.
