“the location really isn't sketchy unless you're deathly afraid of hipsters, it's the lower east side for crying out loud.”
“the place also has cute couches you can lounge on - so bring a friend and enjoy the yummy desserts!”
“It's a very nice place to just lounge in too, with possibly the last place in Manhattan where the coffee is still a dollar.”
“we didn't know that it also carried the most delicious cupcakes in the world!”
“The strawberry rubarb pie is amazing , so is the variety of trifles they sell by the cup.”
“was in the city recently and this place (being down the street from the awesome Economy Candy store) was on my list of places to try my first Red Velvet cupcake.”
“although the lower East side is (obviously) pretty sketchy, so I'm not sure if I'd go back when there's still Magnolia's and Crumbs in better areas.”
“Great delivery - great service”
“Really cheap (for the city), creative flavors, the Red Velvet is my favorite!”
“once again, as someone in the biz: once the sun sets on your passion for finding good people to sell your product, you might be in for a long, dark night.”
Cupcakes are good, but the lady who
takes order provides the worst customer service.
I've never experienced with someone who would argue back with you and blames it on you. However, when we received the order, we were missing one cupcake, and the lady wouldn't deliver it for the missing cupcake unless we purchase a minimum of $10.80.
Awesome cupcakes. I highly recommend the pistachio cupcakes. Each cupcake is $1.50. I noticed that the cupcakes made out of chocolate cake mix tended to fall apart prematurely, so keep this in mind if you're eating on the run.
catch 22: bad customer service - great cupcakes. Possibly the WORST customer service I have ever encountered in my 8 years in NYC. Obnoxious arrogant and down-right rude. And - possibly the BEST cupcakes I've ever had. If you're principled enough - go somewhere else. But the cupcakes really are special - some of the staff on the other hand...not so much.
Terrific cupcakes and service. I am very suprised at the negaive reviews of this place, I live 2 blocks away so i pass by this place every day and stop in at least 3 times a week. I get nothing but cheerful and prompt service each and ever time i go there from every employee that helps me. I have tried the cookies, cupcakes, and muffins and they are all excellent. The frosting can be a tad sweet at times but i just take some off now. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. just a side not to the people who complain about how the place has been past business hours and they wanted service and feel they were treated rudely....If you have ever worked in retail industry, places have buisness hours for a reason and if you show up too early or too late its your own fault..(see the review on the girl who wanted a birthday supcake after the store was closed)...yes customer service is important, but people do have lives they have to get too...take care
The best peanut butter pie. Cheap, better than any of the other cupcake shops in NYC. If you like peanut butter, you must get the peanut butter pie.
Worst service ever encountered. Although I wasn't sold on their baked goods when I first tried them, I attempted to place an order at a colleague's suggestion for an office affair. The horror began when I placed the first call to find out the specifics of placing an order. Although I was put off by an employee's attitude, things got worse when the owner got involved. I was motified by her tone as she proceeded to berate me like I was her child and cancelled an order that I had placed with another employee. Had I read the reviews from other customers who found the owner reprehensible, I would have taken my business elsewhere (considering that I was never sold on "saltysourdarkness" as they should be known). Reading from the owners' bios, they should have learned manners when they learned to bake their cupcakes. I hope the owner that I spoke with remembers that a business' survival is never guaranteed, and she may have to go back to her "gypsie" lifestyle after she drives away customers. I would give this place a zero rating if I had the choice.
You got to try it. I am a baker, and I live to find bakeries in my field. Cakes and cupcakes are my field and these people can bake. The Strawberry cupcakes are the BOMB!... The red velvet needs help... icing not right and the almond flavoring is too heavy and really not needed. Overall. GREAT! Moist... I will be back!
Raindrops.
lets start with the cliche- the name of the place is sugar sweet sunshine! for cupcakes sake....so what do you expect when you walk through the door?....but it rained hard today and its been raining too often recently on this magical place and heres why.....
ive been frequenting this spot for about 8 months and when i say frequenting i also mean i bring out of town visitors here, recommend it to everyone, order in bulk, and whenever im in the nabe im having a cupcake and a coffee here. its a destination for me despite the long lines. its quaint, cute and bright and the cupcakes are absolutely delicious. but theres a dark, bitter storm brewing over this place. the SERVICE: in a word, appalling! the countergirls, eight times out of ten have an attitude worse than hurricane katrina. im talking about blatant eye rolling, the why-are-you-asking-me-for-anything body language, and just general huffy puffy exasperation.....heaven forbid i would want my coffee served to me hot. today made me really sour. i was so disappointed that neither me nor my buddy ordered the usual cupcakes after the coffee debacle because we didnt want to interact with the nasty girl behind the counter. also watching her interact with other customers and their reactions. ...not sunny.please fix this sugar, sweet! once again, as someone in the biz: once the sun sets on your passion for finding good people to sell your product, you might be in for a long, dark night.
Bob & $1.00 coffee. I LOVE MY BOB (cupcake) ...! ..it's a great place to stay and chit chat or just read a book. You feel like you're home.
