“I'm usually not a big fan of vegeterian cuisine but great food coupled with the ambiance has got me to be a repeat customer.”

“Vegetarian/vegan cuisine is only as good as the staff's love and commitment to it and I have been to no other such restaurant in New York where this is greater.”
“have an expectation for vegan food to have a little more style and excitement, that is, I expect at least one menu item to be new in some way, whether it be an interesting combination or a new ingredient.”
“This is absolutely the best place to take your non-vegetarian friends who squirm at the idea of a meal without meat.”
“The service was perfect, the environment was great and catered to either dressy or casual.”
“The service was a bit too stale for the price and atmosphere.”
Best Vegan Cuisine in NYC. Did I mention that this is the some of the best vegan cuisine in NY? Always delicious, fresh, flavorful and quality. Every single time.
This place was AWESOME!!!. This place was AWESOME!!! Excellent vagan restaurant The service was good, the environment was great The food is flavorful and cooked to perfection.
Fancy schmacy vegan. Leave your hemp fanny pack at home, vegans, because this place is clas$y (intentional use of dollar sign). Delicious food, but stick with the cooked stuff since the raw plates are small and heavy on the sprouts and lettuce.
Best Brunch. My girlfriend, who is a vegetarian, turned me onto this place. For not being a vegetarian myself I really enjoy coming here for brunch. Their lentil cakes are awesome.
My New Favorite Spot. i was first introduced to this place by my die hard vegan cousin in an attempt to sway me from a life of eating meat. Though this attempt was unsuccessful i really enjoyed myself in this this chic restaurant that is without question one of the hottest places to dine in town. When we arrived there was already a line down the block to get into this one level 10-12 table/seated area, so already our expectations had been raised. I have often playfully teased my cousin's dietary choices proclaiming that her diet consists of strictly seaweed, tofu, and celery sticks but was quickly humbled by the array of dishes. I was skeptical that a vegan eatery could fill me up. However, the food always leaves you completely satisfied. I will never doubt them again. If you're looking for a good excuse to turn vegan/vegetarian start here.
Nice but boring.
I had dinner here about 2 years back. I have to admit, I am no fan of seitan but Candle 79 surely does something magical with it. The chimichurri was really good. I had the paella for the entree, and while good, didn't leave a memorable impression.
The service was a bit too stale for the price and atmosphere. When I reserved the table, I let the host know that it was a special evening and if possible to reserve a nice table. This was a month prior to the evening and they stuck us upstairs in the corner right by the stairs. That part not so nice. The waitress who took our order came to our table exactly 3 times after we basically flagged her down, once to seat us, once to take our orders, and last to bring the bill. While I may still return, this isn't a place I would run to.
Highly recommend. Yammy, highly recommend.
New York's best vegetarian?.
I had dinner here with my best friend from elementary school; I was on vacation visiting NYC.
On first impression, the restaurant is decorated quite tacky. I have an expectation for vegan food to have a little more style and excitement, that is, I expect at least one menu item to be new in some way, whether it be an interesting combination or a new ingredient. I think the word I'm looking for is "refreshing".
Candle 79, was very well executed food, but lacked menu appeal.
I was very happy to find a Cherry Lime Rickey on the drink menu.
Interesting on paper but effectively boring. As a meat eater trying Candle for its good reviews and out of curiosity I found the food nicely presented but boring and over priced. I am sure with the interesting list of ingredients and some appropriate spices a more titillating experience can be created. Maybe we were just unlucky but it cost too much to give it another try with dubious outcome.
