“The decor is charming and the cookies are fabulous!”
“After reading so many good posts about this place I decided to go order a cake from Billy's.”
“We had a chocolate cupcake and a slice of German Cake, which was very good, especially when you wash it down with a cup of Billy's coffee.”
“Service and food were great however I was very disappointed that Billy's was not more authentic in it's 50's atmosphere.”
“two other options in the immediate neighborhood wins HANDS DOWN for truly awesome sweets and treats, so it's a no-brainer.”
“After reading so many good posts about this place I decided to go order a cake from Billy's.”
“Although I wish they had a delivery service (we needed to pick up the cupcake tower, cupcakes, and return the tower after the wedding), their customer service was excellent and more than made up for that.”
“didn't like these cupcakes or the customer service”
“The desserts here are decent sized and the portions of frosting is a guarantee for diabetes.”
“When finally ordered, all they had was cupcakes, I thought what yahoo waits 30 minutes for a cupcake, then I realized how delicious the cupcake was, how cool the atmosphere was.”
There's a lot here that's well worth taking home, but its the cupcakes that everyone loves the most. By all means get a box, but you'll surely want to eat one or two as you walk away. Unlike some cupcakes (yes, you, Magnolia) these are actually worth the wait.
Just Barely Average. The shop is cute but small. Although I went in about 30 minutes after they opened there was no red velvet cupcakes. When I asked if they were making any I was told "maybe later today." I tried a chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing and a vanilla with vanilla icing. I assumed because there were only a few chocolate cupcakes left that someone bought a lot before I came. After tasting the hard brick they were passsing off as a chocolate cupcake I think it's safe to assume these were at least 1-2 days old. YUCK!! I had to throw it out. The vanilla cupcake was tasty but nothing special. I won' t go out of my way to come back here.
I didn't like these cupcakes or the customer service. I stood there a while before the staff waited on me. They knew I was there but just kept avoiding me. Finally, I asked for red velvet cupcakes - they said they were out (it was 10 minutes after they opened). I saw a tray of them but was told it was for a special order. I ended up getting vanilla and chocolate cupcakes - the icing was watery and did not hold up well. The icicing was not rich tasting. The cake fell apart easily. I would not go back to this shop.
Magnolias vs. Billys = same difference. From what I hear, the owner of the store worked at Magnolia's Bakery, and then stole the recipe to open his own version of Magnolia's bakery... The cupcakes tastes and looks exactly the same as Magnolias, they call it something else of course, but I always just order it by vanilla vanilla or chocolate vanilla like they do at Magnolias. Besides the cute interior designs of the bakery, i found nothing too special about this place. The icing on the cupcakes for me were a little bit too sweet, the cake is a little dry so order a cup of milk to go along with it...
Dissapointed w/my experience. I found ordering for corporate birthdays and events a really frustrating experience. Magnolia and Cupcake Cafe have well honed staff able to take your order efficiently and pleasantly. The manager of Billy's was pretty rude and arrogant when I tried to place an order. While I really enjoy the in-store Billy's experience and of course their sweets..there are other, much more efficient places to order top notch baked goods for delivery. I don't think I will order from there again the next time we have another office birthday party.
Cute Bakery!! Great for those with a sweet tooth :). I think i first discovered this place back in 2004. Had i rated this place back then I would have gave them 5 stars, but will only give them 4 stars for now. At the time I LOVED the place....Great Cupcakes....Great Services.....I actually stopped going to Magnolias because I prefer going to Billy's Bakery. Since then the only things that I have tried are the cupcakes of all flavors, Red Velvet Cake, Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie, the refrigerator cake. All of which are really Good....The only thing with the Refrigerator Cake is that is taste best when eaten right away. I also tried their chocolate chip cookies....it was just so...so. The last time i was out their was around the summer...maybe September......around the few months surrounding that time...The cupcakes have not been quiet up to par......and the customer service a give or take. Some days really nice staff...and other days...there are some that could been friendlier. Don't get me wrong I will still continue to come to this place. I am still addicted to their Red Velvet Cake and Cupcakes. I also appreciate the cute job they did on my husbands B-Day cake. Overall, Come!! The treats are tasty here :)
Bad service=Bad business. I took my friend to Billy's for her birthday. I was disappointed by the rude service and attitude their cashier girl gave us. I was told there was NO red velet cupcakes, while a whole tray of them were staring me in the face. Our cupcakes were not in a box but shoved in a paper bag, where the frosting was smeared all over. We asked her for napkins and she ignored our question, until she finished frosting her cupcakes. When she finally did acknowledge us, she wripped off some paper towels and and chucked them to us. When my pregnant friend politely asked if she could kindly use their bathroom, she was told to go to the corner restaurant instead. Cup cukes were Ok, not worth giving our patronage.
Glad I Discovered Billy's!. I was lamenting the changes at my favorite bakery when a friend suggested I try Billy?s! Glad I did! The decor is charming and the cookies are fabulous! If you are looking for fresh from the oven cookies chocked with flavor and mixings - this is the place!!!
Best Banana Cake Ever. I pre-ordered one for a party last weekend, and I was definitely the most popular guy that night. I called a few days in advance and paid over the phone, so all I had to do was go and pick it up Friday afternoon. When I arrived at the bakery, I just told the girl at the counter my name and she went to package my cake. A few minutes later, and I was out the door, dessert in hand. Later at the party, when I walked in carrying the bag with the Billy's logo on it, the host was grinning from ear to ear. A few other guests "ooohed" and "aaahed." The cake was literally gone after about 15 minutes. My piece was moist and sweet, but not cloyingly so. The cream cheese frosting melted in my mouth and didn't feel heavy in my stomach afterwards. I have friends who don't even like bananas and they loved this cake. Yep, this one's definitely a winner and is going down in my book as the best banana cake ever.
Killer Sweets. I've been a regular at Billy's for a long time now. It's one of those old favorites that never lets me down. Things you already know you love at Billy's: Banana Cake, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Banana Cream Pie, Yellow Daisy Cupcakes with Vanilla Frosting, Cute Guys, No Bouncer, No Attitude, The Smell... Things you didn't know you love about Billy's: Butterscotch Gingerbread Cookies, THE COFFEE, Pecan Pie, Hello Dolly Bars
Billy's New Biggest Fan.
After hearing all the hype from my neighbors, I finally went to Billy's Bakery for the first time yesterday. For once an experience that lives up to legend!
First the smell. WOW! Enough said. Second the decor was so cute. It's small, but I think that just makes the place feel more homey and personal. The wallpaper, the formica tables, the pastel frosting and the doilies. It's so charming! Third, the customer service was great. It's seems from past posts that maybe the staff wasn't quite as friendly before, but the guy who helped me was very sweet. He patiently answered all of my one-million questions. Plus he was completely adorable. :) Finally, the german chocolate cupcake was so yummy I've been dreaming about it (and drooling) ever since. I love german chocolate, and this was probably the best I've ever had.
I really can't think of anything negative to say about this place. I loved it, and I can't wait to try more of their desserts in the future!
