Can an entranceway filled with ultra-bright mall lighting set the mood for a glamorous night out? Hotel-bar titan Rande Gerber is betting on it with his expansive lounge on the fourth floor of Columbus Circle's upscale Time Warner Center. Once inside, the lights are low, yet the energy remains as the noise of the enormous after-work crowd bounces off marble floors and glass walls. A sweeping view of Central Park and Broadway is the most impressive design element in a room full of square, lobby-ish chairs and banquettes.

I don't even know where to begin... Last week a date took me to Stone Rose for drinks and the view. The view was great. That was the only thing that was great. The service was the worst I have had anywhere! The bouncer was flirting with some girl on our way in and didn't even notice us standing there until we asked to be seated. He was very nice as he was seating us, but it was the beginning of a very long evening. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone even took our order and our waitress treated us like we were a major inconvenience. We could see her standing near the bar talking and flirting with the bouncer while we sat and waited for our drinks. (Same thing happened when we wanted to order another round, which took another 15 minutes just to flag her down). The waitresses all acted like they were hot s**t and wayyyy to busy to be bothered to serve drinks...you know, it's not like it's their job or anything! I hate to break it to you, but tiny skirts, boots and cleavage don't cover up the fact that most of you are way past your prime in a job you probably took while you attempted to "make it big" elsewhere. Good luck, I hope you like waitressing. We tried to make the best of the situation, after all the view really is beautiful, but the flirtatious staff and long waits for expensive drinks made this a terrible date. An hour and a half and two drinks later we decided to go elsewhere. On our way out the staff was too busy to say goodbye and the bouncer was busy fliritng again. (What is this place a big singles bar for the staff to meet people?!!) There are plenty of places that are more accommodating and not as stuck up as Stone Rose. I would not recommend this place to anyone but people on business meetings with corporate cards and no souls (they will fit right in).

Stone Rose on a Saturday night is laden with half nked chubby 25 year-olds staring at their own reflections while practicing dance moves on the bathroom line. Egotistical bouncers named Andre pick fights wtih patrons in order to showcase their old high school wrestling moves (see other posts, this is not a one off incident). Staff breathe down your neck and tell you whatever spot you are standing in is 'reserved,' after they use the threat of Andre's Full Nelson to make you move. The recession will hopefully force this place to learn some manners. Spend your hard earned money at an establishment that actually values its customers.

I went there in mid-December with friends, and we had a blast. The drinks are great, and I loved the food. The staff was great, very polite and attentive. Very comfortable; we spent a couple of hours there. If you're ever in Manhattan, it's worth a stop.
