Editorial Review for Plan B – by Janet Tzou
The Scene
This smallish former Drinkland space underwent a non-extreme makeover. Large fake plants, zebra-striped banquettes and a lone disco ball twirling in the corner make for a dressing that only slightly spruces up the main dance floor area. Those wanting to relax with a drink head to the white-walled, white padded-leather side room.
The Draw
Singles on the prowl may appreciate the tight surroundings that quickly force patrons to get up close and personal in this meat market-like atmosphere. Expect a young, mixed, 20-something crowd grooving to Top 40 tunes on weekends, with sparser crowds weeknights. The back hallway with bathrooms next to the DJ booth offer a more tranquil hangout spot, where conversation inevitably draws in the next stranger in line.

I've been to Plan B twice on Friday nights and both experiences were consistently good. One of Fridays the DJ was amazing and mixed different types of music really well (mainly hip hop with some other cool stuff mixed in). I like Plan B as a low key place to hang out without all the pomp and circumstance of the city. I still like the uppity, cutesy lounges but this place I think is a nice balance and also a great area. Better to get there early since it's not a huge location. I've gotten there at 1 and it was fine, but it's just more ideal to get there earlier.
Pros: great music and atmosphere
Cons: Small

I recently organized a birthday party there and it was a real let down. I wasnt able to get a private space but they assured me the main space would be plenty room. HUGE mistake. The place was packed packed packed...crammed with 21 year old kids drunk out of their minds. The whole night waiters and busboys ran around us carrying huge crates of beer and other stuff. we couldnt stand or dance in peace for even one second. The music was very average and the DJ was really rude and disconnected from the crowd...I think she was high or something. The manager completely ignored us all night long..so much for the free drinks for the birthday person they promote on their website. I dont know how they can allow so many people into such a tiny place...arent there rules for that stuff? We ran out of there in an hour hoping to find some place we could actually have some fun. A huge let down. Even if you do snag a private room be prepared to be squashed! Too many far far better places in our city to have to deal with this. Should be renamed Plan Z.
Pros: Nice location...tons of bars around
Cons: Watered down drinks, super crowded
