i went to saloon last night to try out cornhole. we had beers coming all night and watched the ranger game on the huge projection screen at the same time. it was worth going back for. definitely a great new spot in nyc. if i could give it more stars i would
Saloon is better than ever – People shouldn't go or not go to a place based on bad reviews from strangers that were posted years ago. Saloon is a good time. The people have great energy, there's really good drink specials and it's always a lot of fun. Cornhole tournaments are now running and the games are always showing on 16 tvs and a projector!
Incredibly Rude – Aesthetically speaking, this is a really nice bar, so it's a shame that the bouncer/manager on duty the other night was such a jerk. Disrespectful, degrading, and simply mean. Arbitrary cover charges for different people and randomly changing credit card minimums depending on his whim... MAJOR POWER TRIP. Here's some interesting information: We're in New York, and there are about a thousand other bars that are just as nice. Don't drive away customers just because they have the balls to call you out on your ridiculous behavior.
Never again. – SO. I am not 100% sure where to even start. I went to Saloon for a friend's birthday. I arrived at 10:30 during memorial day weekend, and the bouncer then told us that we would need to pay a cover to get into the empty bar. But he gave us a "deal" since it was my friend's birthday.
I paid the cover then went to straight to the bar, where i found out that there were 6 dollar budlights, and a 24 minimum on credit cards. Fine, 2 budlights each for me and my friend. I then went to the bathroom and noticed my missing ID. I went the bar tender, who had my ID (they take your ID and your credit card) BUT informed of the THIRTY DOLLAR minimum. SO i then asked for the management, this was outrageous -getting the run around. The manager ended up being the bouncer from ealier. He decided to inform me that I was yellling at him, and then proceeded to throw my ID on the floor. OH, excuse me, the SIDEWALK. We then had a conversation, he let me speak and I let him speak. We decided to start over. So I said, okay, so lets re-open my tab. Is it 24 or 30? HE then said, well you have to START over. You'll have to borrow money from a friend, or go to the ATM,
Now, I want to state for the record, I had no problem with the cover or the prices. I have lived in NY for 3 years, I know the deal. But never, NEVER, have I been treated this way. I will never go back to Saloon ever again, and had it not been a friends birthday, I would have peaced out at 10:30, after being treated the way I was.
Who is writing these awful reviews???? – I love this place! I have no idea why it's getting so many bad reviews...everytime I go here I have the best time. The music is perfect - a lot of rap from when I was in HS mixed with some good 80's sing-a-long music. It's a pretty big space so there's plenty of room to dance but also room to sit back and have a drink too. I highly recommend Saloon for a fun night out!!
not terrible – Went with my girlfriend and some friends for new years. Almost got kicked out because we were kissing too much! The bouncer told us that if we were two guys we would have already been kicked out but we needed to stop. I have never been completely discriminated against in Manhattan and this almost ruined my night...
great times – DJ Timmy Tunes changed my life. He is like DJ AM, except alive and on less crack.
Good Time! – I had my bachelorette party at Saloon this past weekend - all 15 of us had a good time. The guys/bouncers at the door were very nice even though we were a little late. There was no line to get in. Saloon was crowded, but not too packed. The $10 cover was not bad b/c you get a free drink with it. We had no problem getting to the bar and we had a decent amount of space on the dance floor. My only issue was with the music. The DJ did not take requests b/c he was too busy playing snippets of 80's music - And he was guarded by 2 bouncers! The DJ played 30 seconds of one 80's song and then was onto the next 80's song. ALL 80’s!
Believe the other reviews, the music is the only bad thing about the place. I did not hear anything current . . .no Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney, Acon, Kanye West, TI or Timberlake. It was ALL OLD Michael Jackson, Madonna and Journey. I will likely not be back . . .but I will say everyone had a good time. No line, Not Packed, A good sized Dance Floor, Decent Priced Drinks, all this within walking distance of my apt made Saloon a very good bachelorette party place for me. Thanks Saloon!
Great place to go with friends! – Saloon was a great night out with all of my friends. It was crowded, but there was still elbow room and we didn't have to wait for drinks. They had two bar areas opened and the music was pretty good. Some of the songs were a little random, but overall, it was a fun place to drink and dance. I plan on going back again soon!
