What People Are Saying About Kanoyama

In Short – Founded by staff of the late, lamented Iso, which long occupied the same prime corner location, Kanoyama continues its predecessor's legacy of popular, stylish sushi. Rose-hued track lighting overhead casts a pleasing glow on the small, spare room. In addition to a large and distinctive assortment of daily sushi and sashimi, a la carte or in combinations, the kitchen offers dishes like sake-marinated black cod, sliced duck with scallions, and "sea foie gras" made with monkfish liver.
we are not in ISO anymore!!!!

Food ok but not as good as it used to be, they kept the prices that's for sure!!! you still have to wait too long but now is for mediocre sushi so might as well go to some other of the 100000000000 Sushi places in the area. I miss ISO so much:(
- Pros: location
- Cons: not as good as ISO used to be.
Its amazing

Was really surprised with the negative reviews, this my joint favourite sushi spot in the city, excellent black cod, super fresh sashimi and excellent specials, best I've had their was a blue fin tuna rib special one of the most unusual and fantastic dish I've tried, service is decent but the quality of food and reccomendations negate that and the occasional wait....
It just goes to show how unreliable Zagat ratings are

I totally agree with the previous reviewer that Kanoyama should be around 20 in Zagat, not 27. We had the sushi for 2 for 44$, which were among the most ordinary pieces I've eaten in the city (uninteresting selection and so-so quality of fish, and the rice was too tightly shaped for my taste).
The 10-dollar per piece special Uni was good, though not excellent (i.e. not worth the price), while the best item in my meal was the Zucchini Tempora with shrimp and uni, 2 large pieces, 17$. It came with 3 kinds of seasoned salt (citrus, green tea, curry).
Good neighborhood Japanese I guess, and the service and vibe was nice and unhurried during early Saturday evening. But will I go again? Not likely.
- Pros: Daily specials, good ambience.
- Cons: Disappointing sushi.
