The Scene
It's both industrial and rough-hewn, with exposed brick, thick wood beams and an open brick oven. Tables are topped with craft paper over linen; likewise, suits are not uncommon, but neither are jeans. A smallish bar sits near the rear of the dining room, allowing for casual dining and wine sipping. Service is engaging and first-rate.
The Food
There's nothing daring about Chef Marc Murphy's modern American fare, but his cooking is so spot-on that even the most familiar dishes are remarkably satisfying. Start with warm profiteroles filled with melting goat cheese, a bowl of grassy spring asparagus soup or a large pot of steaming mussels in dijonnaise sauce with excellent fries for dipping. Entrees, from the incredibly tender braised lamb shank to the monkfish with olives, fennel and tomato, are excellent. Steaks, however, are overly fatty. For dessert, the affordable sampler is the way to go.

What to DrinkThe exciting wine list features interesting bottles and low markups. Try the superb Bethel Heights pinot noir from Willamette Valley ($36). No wines are offered by the glass, but half bottles ($10-$20), are available.
Where to SitThere's another, usually more quiet, dining room upstairs which features a nearly enclosed booth that seats up to seven.

Everyone always talks about this place like it is good, and unfortunately I get fooled into going back. The wait staff is always sub par, the food is never that great (especially given the price) and I always leave feeling like I was some how cheated. The sandwiches always seem greasy, the mussels are okay, and the desserts are pretty good. Fortunately, I will not be fooled into going back anytime soon.
Pros: the wine list is very good
Cons: the food, the service, the restaurant

Four of us went there on a Friday night.. We arrived around 9pm and were told there would be a 45 minute wait (they don't take reservations). We sat at the little bar at the back and got a great glass on Sauvignon Blanc. The manager came over to chat to us and gave us menus while we waited. The table was ready about 45 minutes later. We were seated upstairs just one table back from the window. It was REALLY cold. Two of us put our jackets on and the guys put their scarves on. We were told the heating was on full.... In any event, the food was great and the waitress gave good suggestions for wine. Goatcheese profiteroles and calamari were really good. The grilled tuna was delicious though a little overcooked for me. The chickpea stew it's served with was great. The steak and pasta special were pretty good too from the looks of things! I gave Landmarc just 3 stars out of a possible 5 because it really was so cold that it affected the whole experience.
