The Scene – It's both industrial and rough-hewn, with exposed brick, thick wood beams and an open brick oven. Tables are topped with craft paper over linen; likewise, suits are not uncommon, but neither are jeans. A smallish bar sits near the rear of the dining room, allowing for casual dining and wine sipping. Service is engaging and first-rate. – – The Food – There's nothing daring about Chef Marc Murphy's modern American fare, but his cooking is so spot-on that even the most familiar dishes are remarkably satisfying. Start with warm profiteroles filled with melting…

Editor's Tips

What to Drink:
The exciting wine list features interesting bottles and low markups. Try the superb Bethel Heights pinot noir from Willamette Valley ($36). No wines are offered by the glass, but half bottles ($10-$20), are available.
The Extras:
A very affordable kids menu offers sliders, ham and cheese sandwiches, pasta with butter and more.
Where to Sit:
There's another, usually more quiet, dining room upstairs which features a nearly enclosed booth that seats up to seven.
Know Before You Go:
Reservations are only accepted for parties of 6 or more.

dessert

  1. Anyway, given the no res policy and lines to get in, dessert would only slow table turnover - I'll gladly go elsewhere if I want a big dessert that badly.
  2. The best things about it though are the wine list, which is extensive and super reasonably priced, and the dessert list, which is a bunch of inexpensive, small, delicious desserts so you can order a bunch of them and share.
  3. the service was good...ice cream - blah, cones - blah, nutella eclair - blah!
  4. The waiter surprised us with the most delicious cotton candy I ever had, along with mini cones in cute little stands with home made sorbets and ice cream.
  5. The sandwiches always seem greasy, the mussels are okay, and the desserts are pretty good.
  6. There were only a couple of other tables full at that hour, but the steaks were tasty, the waitress attentive and friendly, and the mini desserts inexpensive and delicious.
  7. The ice cream is the best of them, and trust me, I've tried them all!
  8. Highly recommend the dessert sampler.
  9. the restuarant is weak in desserts, but that is ok for a favorite neighborhood upscale place.
  10. The cheese tasting plate is interesting & so is their dessert tasting plate.
  11. Everything here from apptzr, entree & dessert is good.

Disappointing gnocchi

by biberli1291

The special tonight was gnocchi. Well, I have eaten my gnocchi my whole life made by my nanny who comes from Naples, Italy. So, I know how gnocchi should taste. The gnocchi at Landmarc were undercooked. When I asked the waiter to have it more cooked, the cook refused saying that this is the way he cooks them. Well, personally, I don't care how the cook likes it. It was undercooked. Period. At the end, they did not charge us for the gnocchi. Thanks for the gesture but I was still hungry. My recommendation don't order gnocchi at landmarc.

  • Cons: Cook not willing to cook undercooked gnoochi

Ehhh

by FiDiElle

The atmosphere is great!! I wasn't too impressed by the food though. I ordered the salmon and asked for it cooked all the way through, which is definitely was not. The waitor noticed my disgust and offered to take it back to have it cooked more. When my food was brought back out - it still wasn't cooked. I ended just taking it to go and cooking it at home. My date ordered the steak - which he liked. Very cute spot - but be prepared to spend lots of $$$.

Never that good....

Everyone always talks about this place like it is good, and unfortunately I get fooled into going back. The wait staff is always sub par, the food is never that great (especially given the price) and I always leave feeling like I was some how cheated. The sandwiches always seem greasy, the mussels are okay, and the desserts are pretty good. Fortunately, I will not be fooled into going back anytime soon.

  • Pros: the wine list is very good
  • Cons: the food, the service, the restaurant

Nice place

by cbmw

Four of us went there on a Friday night.. We arrived around 9pm and were told there would be a 45 minute wait (they don't take reservations). We sat at the little bar at the back and got a great glass on Sauvignon Blanc. The manager came over to chat to us and gave us menus while we waited. The table was ready about 45 minutes later. We were seated upstairs just one table back from the window. It was REALLY cold. Two of us put our jackets on and the guys put their scarves on. We were told the heating was on full.... In any event, the food was great and the waitress gave good suggestions for wine. Goatcheese profiteroles and calamari were really good. The grilled tuna was delicious though a little overcooked for me. The chickpea stew it's served with was great. The steak and pasta special were pretty good too from the looks of things! I gave Landmarc just 3 stars out of a possible 5 because it really was so cold that it affected the whole experience.

  • Pros: Great food, good wine selection
  • Cons: It's really cold in winter

Landmarc has jumped the shark

by tyrex3

No heat or very little and it was 42 degrees outside. Windows were filthy upstairs, hope kitchen was cleaner. Asked not to have french fries told no subsitutions, not even some additional salad that you buy in enormous bags premixed? Food is very salty, why is that, is the meat now a bad cut? Very noisy and of course lots of screaming children. Was forced to wait for my coat in a drafty doorway because I had dared to check it. When I complained I was scowled at. Not worth the wait or the money.
