The Scene
Sleek and chic as a designer lodge, Gstaad is apres-ski cool all night long. Although one wall of the lofty space is given over to trippy loops of snowboarders careening down slopes, the atmosphere still feels sophisticated. Witty touches like tree-trunk stools dot the front, and the bar makes ample use of the rest of the tree throughout. Large prow-like structures create seating areas and divide sections of the large room like user-friendly Richard Serra sculptures.

The Draw
The serious bartenders know what they're doing and can mix an expert Manhattan, but Gstaad is really about good-looking people enjoying a good-looking space. Once party hour hits, the relaxed vibe heats up, yet the place manages to remain comfortable and fun. Each night, a different DJ spins for a diverse crowd of gays, straights, media insiders and just plain partiers.

I have been to this bar many times, with a bright and cheerful staff, and great selection of bourbon, my friends and I love to stop by. Weekdays have an early rush but calm down around 10. So if you wanna relax and chill out come by late. Judging by the last guys review and his first sentence... "I?ve frequented Gstaad a few times" clearly this person isn't aware of the english language and how it is properly used. And as a black male in the city, to say the bar is discriminating because they don't serve low budget liquor or beer is just lame and offensive to an educated african american. thanks for setting us back 30 years pal. i guess the mexican restaraunt down the street is out for it only having tecate and corona. But anyway, if your looking for a mature crowd and high class drinks, gstaad is the place to be!

I?ve frequented Gstaad a few times, and despite the dead scene and overall lack of professionalism, I find it to be a nice, under-populated space to have a drink with a friend. However, after my most recent visit I can say with certainty that I will never return. I already warned my friend of the poor selection of beer, so he wasn?t surprised when there was no Corona and no Heineken. So then he asked for Hennessey. Gstaad doesn?t carry Hennessey. How about Courvoisier? Gstaad doesn?t carry any type of cognac. How about Hypnotiq? No type of blended drinks. After settling on a rum and Coke, my friend, who happens to be African-American, informed me that Gstaad was a discriminatory bar. He?s been to quite a few bars that don?t carry particular drinks popular among certain ethnic groups, and Gstaad?s now on that list. I?ll never frequent this bar again, and I hope you choose not to as well.

I love this place. I think it might be my new favorite bar in NY. I was there a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday party, and we we all loved it. I feel like I've been to so many bars in NY recently that are way too crowded and that have been overrun by 24-year olds. The crowd at Gstaad was diverse and sophisticated (we were all commenting on this fact), and, while there were definitely a good number of people there, it was not too crowded. Beyond that, it's a beautiful space, and the ambience is great. The high ceilings are a plus, too....a rare thing in NY.
