The Scene – Sleek and chic as a designer lodge, Gstaad is apres-ski cool all night long. Although one wall of the lofty space is given over to trippy loops of snowboarders careening down slopes, the atmosphere still feels sophisticated. Witty touches like tree-trunk stools dot the front, and the bar makes ample use of the rest of the tree throughout. Large prow-like structures create seating areas and divide sections of the large room like user-friendly Richard Serra sculptures. – – The Draw – The serious bartenders know what they're doing and can mix an expert…

ambiance

  1. good drinks, fun bartenders, nice space.
  2. Both parties were fun, upscale and diverse- a quintessentially great New York Party.
  3. The crowd was fun, though maybe a bit too large for the space.
  4. Its very nice in here in terms of decor, but the crowded ambiance needs to be addressed as its hardly a lounge as it is a big group of body heat.
  5. there's no cover, the drinks are well priced, the atmosphere is awesome, and the people are amazing - bartenders are cute and friendly and dj brenda black was great (played requests too!)
  6. Seems like all they like to do is flash their flashlights up and down and ask people to move then they have finally found a comfortable spot to stand (and that is hard to do here at Gstaad).
  7. The high ceilings and sleek decor make the experience comfortable and picture-worthy.
  8. Gstaad has the makings of a good place with an interesting theme and decor, but on my recent Wednesday night visit, it was very empty.
  9. The "cabin" as it's called, features many comfortable couches.
  10. The bartenders are very cool & friendly, the management is excellent and the atmosphere is top notch.
  11. Beyond that, it's a beautiful space, and the ambience is great.
  12. the crowd is not cool or beautiful and the seating is not comfortable -- talk about trying too hard.

  1. the bartenders were nasty and one had the audacity to complain about a 3 dollar tip given when 5 beers were bought!
  2. there's no cover, the drinks are well priced, the atmosphere is awesome, and the people are amazing - bartenders are cute and friendly and dj brenda black was great (played requests too!)
  3. This is a great bar.
  4. Friendly bartenders, strong drinks at good prices.
  5. don't know if it's the creative seasonal drinks or the overwhelming amount of space but Gstaad is always a good time.
  6. By the way, the quality of the drinks either match or far surpass those of much more expensive locations.
  7. The attractive people, the awesome surf/ski videos, and some of the coolest bathrooms in the city make Gstaad my favorite bar.
  8. think it might be my new favorite bar in NY.
  9. ve frequented Gstaad a few times, and despite the dead scene and overall lack of professionalism, I find it to be a nice, under-populated space to have a drink with a friend.
  10. Great service, great drinks, great music.
  11. And as a black male in the city, to say the bar is discriminating because they don't serve low budget liquor or beer is just lame and offensive to an educated african american.
  12. great new bar.
  13. good drinks, fun bartenders, nice space.
  14. was told by nasty management that a bottle could be bought at the bar!
  15. First off, I've had parties there (good service and helpful management), The bar is neither dirty nor small, in fact it has super-high ceilings and is a gorgeous space.

Great atmosphere and drinks!

by zp640 at Citysearch

I have been to this bar many times, with a bright and cheerful staff, and great selection of bourbon, my friends and I love to stop by. Weekdays have an early rush but calm down around 10. So if you wanna relax and chill out come by late. Judging by the last guys review and his first sentence... "I?ve frequented Gstaad a few times" clearly this person isn't aware of the english language and how it is properly used. And as a black male in the city, to say the bar is discriminating because they don't serve low budget liquor or beer is just lame and offensive to an educated african american. thanks for setting us back 30 years pal. i guess the mexican restaraunt down the street is out for it only having tecate and corona.

But anyway, if your looking for a mature crowd and high class drinks, gstaad is the place to be!

Will never return to this bar

by nycQT27 at Citysearch

I?ve frequented Gstaad a few times, and despite the dead scene and overall lack of professionalism, I find it to be a nice, under-populated space to have a drink with a friend. However, after my most recent visit I can say with certainty that I will never return. I already warned my friend of the poor selection of beer, so he wasn?t surprised when there was no Corona and no Heineken. So then he asked for Hennessey. Gstaad doesn?t carry Hennessey. How about Courvoisier? Gstaad doesn?t carry any type of cognac. How about Hypnotiq? No type of blended drinks. After settling on a rum and Coke, my friend, who happens to be African-American, informed me that Gstaad was a discriminatory bar. He?s been to quite a few bars that don?t carry particular drinks popular among certain ethnic groups, and Gstaad?s now on that list. I?ll never frequent this bar again, and I hope you choose not to as well.

  • Pros: There is never anyone in there.
  • Cons: Can be boring.

great spot

by rt246 at Citysearch

I love this place. I think it might be my new favorite bar in NY. I was there a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday party, and we we all loved it. I feel like I've been to so many bars in NY recently that are way too crowded and that have been overrun by 24-year olds. The crowd at Gstaad was diverse and sophisticated (we were all commenting on this fact), and, while there were definitely a good number of people there, it was not too crowded. Beyond that, it's a beautiful space, and the ambience is great. The high ceilings are a plus, too....a rare thing in NY.

Best party in years

by sbh2004 at Citysearch

We celebrated my birthday at Gstaad on the 22nd of March and I had the best time ever. This is definitely not our first event here - we have been frequenting Gstaad for three years now and it has always been a whole lot of fun. But before planning my party my husband wanted to check out other places and nothing came close to what we wanted. Gstaad is spcacious, clean and even on a crazy saturday night there is enough room to easily move around. They have some fun cocktails. The staff is really nice, especially Jessica who is such a fantastic person. She was really nice to all my friends and me and went out of her way to make things special. I am definitely doing more events at Gstaad.

  • Pros: Service, space
  • Cons: None..seriously!!!

Great Service

by tim30 at Citysearch

I hardly ever write reviews, but after reading the ridiculous one just posted, I couldn't contain myself. It sounds like the people involved wanted to have a bad time and complain about something. First off, I've had parties there (good service and helpful management), The bar is neither dirty nor small, in fact it has super-high ceilings and is a gorgeous space. Secondly, if they wanted table service they should have checked with the management before, after all this is a bar. If they wanted party hats and cake they should have had a house party. And what tips me off that these people don't really know how to go out is the thought a $3 tip was appropriate for 5 drinks. For petes sake, at least a dollar a drink!

  • Pros: decor, service
  • Cons: none
