Editorial Review for Maritime Lobby Bar – by Kara Zuaro

The Scene
The retro decor of this quaint hotel lobby features a kitschy seafaring mural, soothing navy-blue accents and enough dark-wood paneling to suggest that the Love Boat has dropped anchor in Chelsea. A roaring fire heats up patrons in the winter months, but the warm weather lures visitors to an outdoor terrace, where spherical Chinese lanterns hang from above, and strings of blue lights spruce up neatly potted trees.

The Draw
A young, professional crowd snags open-air seating or lingers on the vintage-style armchairs and sofas, and short-skirted waitresses deliver Mediterranean-inspired drinks and snacks from the hotel's Italian bistro, La Bottega. Thin-crusted pizza with imported mozzarella pairs well with the vino alla salvia--rose wine infused with sage and topped with a twist of lemon. The prosecco, or sparkling wine, mixed with fresh mandarin orange juice tastes as sweet and refreshing as the sun and sand on foreign shores.

While I cannot complain about the beautiful atmosphere and trendy decor, I must tell you, IT IS NOT WORTH IT. Bouncers are rude and discriminatory, table service is horrible, bartenders barely know the recipes to mix drinks, and the prices are outrageous. You are better off at any other bar in the city (and trust me, I have been to plenty). The Maritime hotel is completely misleading. Don’t let it fool you….

I went to the Maritime to enjoy the nice weather and get some drinks with a few of my friends. We sat there from 6-8pm and literally saw the waitress twice. It was impossible to get drinks she took forever, we could never find her. Then to top the bill was wrong and it took her an hour to fix it. They really need to get more help for the outside area immediatley.
