The Scene – Slainte follows a new Irish bar formula that's had success around the city in recent years. A sense of intimacy is traded for expansive space, and a brisk, clean interior replaces the well-worn comfort of more traditional pubs. Though it's almost as if Restoration Hardware facilitated the transformation, it is a handsome bar, and despite its large proportions, the exposed-brick walls and dark-wood details lend warmth. Several flat-screen TVs sit high along the wall, and candles grace the tables in the rear. – – The Draw – Slainte does what many Irish pubs…
One of my Faves
by peteburke73
I've been going to Slainte since 2004. Put it this way, the night I asked my wife to marry me, we came here afterwards, and I asked her again. It's that type of place, you feel like family here. One of the things that attracted me initially to this place was that it wasn't that crowded after work. But like all good places, word gets around, and more and more people started showing up, which is good for the owners, I'm sure. There's a great selection of English and Irish brews on hand, as well as all the American favorites. The bar food is excellent. The Shepard's Pie and Bangers & Mash are some of the best I've had this side of the pond. The bar and waitstaff are extremely attentive, no matter how crowded it gets. There's plenty of TVs to catch whatever sports action is going on, and a large projector on the back wall. If you happen to be in New York during the week, stop by, I'm probably sitting in the back with my computer open, enjoying a brew and some good food.
- Pros: Quiet during the week, 2 for 1 brews, free wifi
- Cons: Not many, just crowded on weekends.
Amazing service
by GutchMasterFlex
I just went to Slainte last Tuesday night for the first time. Normally I dont go out on tuesday nights (I save my drinking for the weekends) but I had a particularly rough day at the office so I decided to have a beer after work. My experience at slainte was so amazing due to the great waitress, bartender, music and overall atmosphere that I totally forgot about the rough day I was having. I am absolutely going to become a regular slainte goer!!!!! Very highly recommended.
- Pros: great service
- Cons: none
Awful experience
by P228
Like others, I found the wait staff was rude, mean, and tried to cheat my friends, and almost ruined a going-away gathering. Like other reviewers who had bad experiences, I've since heard a lot of similar stories about Slainte after this happened - what a terrible bar, there are way better places to spend your money.
- Pros: Not too many, they have decent chickenpot pie
- Cons: Incredibly rude bartenders & waitstaff, terrible service
