What Our Expert Scouts Say

January 23, 2013

This west village hangout is a fine place to have a beer and watch a football game, but its only true mark of distinction is its excellent cheesesteak. t's good, but like its near neighbor the Corner Bistro, has been coasting on its rep for years.

Good cheese steaks, but they may run out of bread!. When we were there, they ran out of their famous CHEESE STEAK BREAD, so I had mine pureed and stuck between the sides of a Kaiser roll. Not quite the same, but still tastey. We sat outside, for maybe the last time this year.

The ambience was fine. They had NOW I WANNA BE YOUR DOG on the jukebox. The Redsox were losing on television. The waitress with legs that went all the way from her hips to her ankles. The waffle fries were as tasty as my cheesesteak burgerette. It's a nice place to while away some time. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers

My favorite NYC cheesesteak. Have tried pretty much all of the standard NYC cheesesteak places - Philly Slim's, Carl's, etc. The Wogie's cheesesteaks are much better - the meat in the Wogie's cheesesteaks is much better than the meat in Carl's. I love going there for a meal as well, nice to have a casual bar scene. The owners are always super-friendly as well. Although they are not authentic, I really like the cheesesteak wraps - a little healthier!

Worth a try.... Let me start out by saying that I'm a cheesesteak purist... I'm VERY particular about them. Allthough they are not authentic Philly-Style Steaks, they're still good. My girlfriend had the buffalo chicken sandwitch, and that was great too, but VERY spicey. This place is good for a late night sandwitch spot, the food is good, but don't expect an authentic Philly Cheesesteak, you've gotta go to Carl's Steaks on 34th and 3rd for that!

Absolutely Delicious!!!. In 2004, I visited New York for the first time. My friend lives in Greenwich Village near Woogies. The first week she showed me around NY, she introduced me to a few fine restaurants which were really nice. On the last day we stumbled across Woogies for lunch. I absolutely fell in love with their cheese steak (cheese whiz) chicken sandwiches. The following year I visited NY three times. Each visit I stopped at Woogies a few times for their sandwich and wedged fries. Occasionally, my boyfriend and I will try and duplicate the sandwich at home, but it doesn't come out nearly as tasty and Woogies Sandwiches. Let me know when you branch out to Los Angeles.

Very Disappointing. Went there for a happy hour dinner on a thirsty Thursday. Being from Philadelphia, I was really looking forward to authentic cheesesteaks. Steaks weren't that great, although it was nice that they offer Whiz. Fries were room tempature and hard, even after we sent them back once. The Pookie was nothing but cheap, Sysco chicken and the roles were too doughy. Draught beer is so-so. Overall, really disappointed. If they're going to taut authentic Philly steaks, they need to head back to the motherland and take a refresher course.

Not the best experience. Went to Wogies last night-not very impressed! I was with my son and his girlfriend and they felt the same way. The steak sandwich didn't have much flavor and the beer was more like cool instead of cold. The chili fries were really good though. Maybe I was just there on an off night. The waitress seemed to be trying to take care of everyone by herself, they were obviously shorthanded and maybe that's why things were not as good as I had hoped for. I'll try it again another time.

Great Philly Cheesesteak in NYC, yes please. "Yummy yummy Yummy I got woogies in my tummy." This place dominates me to my soul. The food is so nice- I want to get my cheesesteak on right now. Grtee some serious turdaction within 4hours of consumption. I only worry that this review might bring others and cause crowding.

Great neighborhood bar. We wandered in to Wogies after walking around the city all morning...the cheese steaks were amazing - try the California -- yum! The fries were huge and crunchy and sinful. The cheap beer and great outside seats enticed us to stay the rest of the afternoon. Aaron is terrific and his staff was so friendly. Service was fast and excellent. We are definately going back again and again.

Flakey, but cool!. The friendly staff when they could be found. When the waiter appeared, I ordered Cheese Steak and a Yuengling's. Five minutes later the waiter returned empty-handed. "You wanted a Bud Lite, right?" he asked. I corrected him. In 5 minutes he again returned: a beer in one hand,a cellphone in the other. The beer was a Bud Lite. The waiter immediately disappeared. When a busboy brought with my food I told him about the error. He took back the wrong beer and brought me the correct one. The place specializes in Philly Cheese Steaks-- and they are good!! I had one with CHEESE WIZ. I cudda eaten a dozen. I ordered another beer, this time I got the right one. I was not charged for the first beer, so the night ended well. Recommended!!! --Drink Club (a weekly group of NYC drinkers)

It's OK. All they really have is philly cheese steak sandwiches and wings. $7 for the cheese steak sandwich, and you don't even get fries with that.
