Bad Manicure – went to get a manicure last week because i live in the area. i had been here once before and was a slightly unhappy with a mani/pedi mostly due to them being highly overpriced for bare minimum service. however, my last minute need caused me to go local. my filing was left sharp, polish was coated unevenly (until pointed out to the lady) and the next day i noticed the top and bottom of my nail had faded away due to the top coat. i just feel like for $16.40/mani, much better service is expected. A couple blocks away I can get one for under $10 at a no frills spot...and it is actually a great mani.....let's just say i won't be making a third appt to go back.
Sneaky Service – I visited this salon because it is conveniently located next to my building and I was in desperate need of a massage. I called and made an appointment for a 60 min. swedish massage - $80 as advertised.
All went pretty well - (nothing impressive, but $80 massage in New York City is a pretty good deal) - however when I went to pay I was charged $97. I asked why I was charged $17 more and the masseuse specified that I was extra tense and needed the shiatsu massage. Well, if I wasn't tense in the first place I probably wouldn't have gotten a massage.
When I disputed the charge, the owner said that the technicians work on commission and I was already provided the service. She told me she would meet me half way and gave me back $5 - which is ridiculous and not even halfway!
I don't know about their other services, however I personally won't be giving my money to a place that practices dishonesty.
I strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere.
good place to get manicures/pedicures – i go to this place often to get manicures and ive gotten two pedicures and they've both been successfull.
i go to the john st location, and i can say that my pedicures last really long (two months) and manicures as well (around a week) so i would recommend this as a good nail place.
it is a bit pricey at $14 a manicure adn $30 for pedicure, but maybe that's just how much they're charging these days.
sometimes just make sure you dont give in to what they're offering, because once i went with my friends and they offered to do a massage and after 20 minutes demanded money.
Horrible Business Policies! – I went to Salon 25 on Exchange Place/25 Broad St. location and I was burned due to the severe heat. I spoke to management and they gave me a gift card for a complimentary facial and a full refund. After this experience I did not want to use their services so I gave the facial gift certificate to my friend for her birthday.
She went to the Exchange St. location did a manicure and tried to get a facial done using my gift certificate. To her dismay (she was there on her birthday itself) she was told the gift certificate was only valid for my use. Keep in mind this would not have been an issue had the gift certificate stated it was "non-transferable". My friend spoke to the manager and tried to explain my why she was given the gift card. Unfortunately management was not very flexible at all.
I would encourage anyone going to this location to be careful of their waxing procedures and to expect nonflexible and very rigid management. I must say my friend said she received a good manicure and the decent service from the manicurist. Also the person who would perform the facial was very nice as well.
I hope someone from Salon 25 would read this review and re-examine their policies to allow for return customers because my friend nor I will NOT EVER consider a visit to Salon 25.
Mr. Kim has magic hands!! – This salon is convenient for a nice after work massage, facial, or manicure/pedicure. I have had many massages around the city and seem to always come back to Mr. Kim. He makes sure that the pressure is perfect and that you are getting the care you are searching for. My favorite part of the massage is the stretches at the end. It makes you feel like a new person. The prices are very reasonable as well. For an hour deep tissue massage I pay $85. The only downside (which I find in just about any spa in NYC) is that you can hear other customers and employees outside of the treatment room. I would recommend this salon to anyone!
Great value – June gave me a great facial and very relaxing neck massage. This place uses high quality products which makes this $70 facial a no-brainer in a city where $100 facials are the norm. The best part is that they do not push products as if their lives depended on it.
