“nice lunch tho a bit pricey”
Big disappointment. The other CitySearch reviews made this place seem like a great find. Its not. Food was subpar and menu was limited. The wine list and service were both good, but not good enough to make me ever go back.
One of My Favorites!. I love 718, I am never disappointed when I go there. Very casual to meet with friends, food is outstanding with impeccable service. Out seating is a plus and in door decor is beautiful. A Manhattan style eatery in Astoria who could ask for more!

Downward Spiral. For the last 2 years, I have been dining at 718 and the food quality and service has been going downhill while the prices have been going up. Yesterday was the last straw. I ordered a duck breast medium rare and when it appeared it was clearly medium. My waitress immediately offered to return the dish but on her way back she was accosted by the owner/ pastry chef. She returned apolegetically and informed me that he had advised her that the duck was medium rare as ordered. When I protested, she again graciously returned the order to the kithcen. The owner actually came to my table to ARGUE that it was medium rare and that what I actually meant to order was rare. In any case , it finally came to the table medium rare/ medium and was a mediocre dish. I was really appalled at the owners behavior- I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK THERE...there are so many great food establishments in NY and QUEENS that understand the value of customer service...in addition the price and food JUST DON"T MAKE UP FOR IT!!! For good french food with good service and decor in Queens, check out Sans Souci
High price for not-so-good food!. My friend raved about 718s brunch so I thought I would try dinner out. Big mistake! The only plus was the champagne mojito, without that my rating would be much lower. The crab cake was okay but pretty bland. The shrimp ceviche was not eatable. The shrimp tasted as if they were freezer burnt. We shared the steak for dinner and could barely slice it in half because of the extremely poor cut of meat and it was accompanied with doctored up home fries. The service was fair: typical city service.
Warmth and multiculturalism come together in Astoria at this hip French bistro..
The Scene
Gradations of red and orange spread across the dimly lit walls, curved tile bar, and corduroy booths, which set the tone for an intimate and sleek dining experience. Well-dressed groups of 30-somethings and couples converse quietly as the small, friendly staff wanders through the restaurant.
The Food
The restaurant's French menu is littered with foreign influences. Start with the Ecuadorian shrimp seviche in a tomato-based marinade, which is light on acidity but high on the sweet taste of mango. Move on to the classic tarte flambee, a light, crispy pizza-like dish topped with onions and piles of crumbly bacon. The special black cod is served in an asparagus cream sauce--the tender slivers of fish accompanied by a slightly salty mix of shiitake mushrooms and fava beans. Finish with the molten chocolate cake, which houses an oozing core of chocolate in a moist cake shell.
A real treasure!. We love this place. The food is outstanding. And it's just the right combination of hip, classic, chic and friendly. After 3 visits we've never had a disappointing dish. The chef puts together some inspired combinations. GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
