The Scene
A heavenly funk hangs in the air, beckoning cheese lovers to the compact confines of this quirky shop. The boho counter help couldn't be happier to hand out samples or give vivid, sometimes hilarious descriptions of the cheeses (among the more timid, the valdeon is described as "moist, furry and soulful"). Go in with sampling in mind and a sense of humor and you'll walk out with some stellar cheese.
The Goods
Aged chevrot and triple-cream brie don't even scratch the surface--this place is all about the cheeses you've never heard of or tasted, the vast majority near-perfectly ripe. Aged goudas, rich, buttery and addictive, sidle up to gooey pots of pungeant French cow's milk cheeses. You'll find your epoisses and your morbier and, of course, your Montgomery cheddar. The shop also sells various crackers and accompaniments including honey and olives.
