The most striking feature is the entrance: A 110-foot atrium towers over an indoor walkway, which extends from 53rd Street to a new entryway on 54th Street. This vastness continues throughout the institution, now almost double its previous size and spread out among six floors. This allows the museum to showcase more of its permanent collection, and offer common areas for reading and reflection, but demands a lot of walking. The restored and extended Sculpture Garden features more than 30 masterworks of modern sculpture. In the five floors of galleries above, photography has been given greater…

Must see
by JDoming
For the modern art lovers and also for whom that loves design it is a must see! It is also wonderful to see the museum store!
MARINA ABRAMOVIC GARBAGE -- AVOID
by LINDAJLEVEN
The much talked about Abramovic stuff is pure junk, disgusting, revolting, trashy gimmickry! She has absolutely no talent -- just a fat head. I was insulted that the museum should try to pass this exhibit off as art worth some price of admission. This woman is not talented. Besides, she is ugly and has nothing that would make one want to see her -- in any way -- especially nude! Moma must be quite desperate financially to put this trash in the museum and bamboozle us into thinking it deserves our attention.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: ABRAMOVIC - JUNK
Don't get guilted into wasting your time and money
by Scoop NYC
This museum is so uniformly ranked among the best in the world that I decided to give it -- and modernism -- another try. Big mistake.
There is some truly great stuff among the oldest paintings in the museum's collection, including some incredible stuff by Cezanne and Van Gogh. Apparently, the museum also has an incredible collection of photography, though I wasn't all that impressed by what I saw on my recent visit.
As for the rest, I know that many people will swear they love it, that it takes incredible talent to leave a canvas blank or just scribble randomly all over it. But those people are lying. Some of them know they are lying to you by claiming to see great artistry at work. The others are lying to themselves, convincing themselves that they can see what we ordinary Philistines cannot in order to feel good about themselves. (They are similar to people who claim that Ulysses is a satisfying book to read.)
In reality, it's crap. No matter how many pompous people claim otherwise or how many guide books recommend it, it's crap. 90 percent of the world will walk through the whole museum in less than two hours and wonder why they hell they decided to spend $20 per ticket to look at such idiocy.
- Pros: Some extraordinary Impressionist and post impressionist
- Cons: Unending pretentious nonsense
My Favorite Museum in the Country
by Daine
As a lover of the arts I consider myself very picky about the exhibits that certain modern museums choose to display. Having said this I consider the MOMA one of the best museums in the world.
