“It's also extremely comfortable, with wonderful suede chairs in the waiting room and these luxurious cashmere blankets you lie under while you have the facial.”
“They treated me like a million bucks and served me cappucino that was delicious.”
“The atmosphere among the employees is horrible?”
“And the prices are totally reasonable.”
“The owner Joanna had bad breath and on top of that I had to wait 20 minutes for my facial that was poorly done by a girl named Martha.”
Great Escape. Today I had the most fun I've ever had getting a pedicure!!! I have been going to the Sava Spa since it opened, and for me it's a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of life in the big city. In the beautiful quiet of this charming spa I met and chatted with one of Joanna's clients, and the delightful, always interesting Joanna herself. I didn't want to leave. The conversation was intelligent and inspiring. Everyone seems to be happy there. The clientele is as delightful as the staff and the experience as a whole is positive. Never mind the fabulous pedicure which had lasted for 5 weeks. Delicious cappuccino intermingled with friendly neighbors who just stop by to say hello reminded me what a needed addition this was to the neighborhood. The is always welcoming and I am looking forward to my next appointment. A gem in Washington Heights. Check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
Look no further, Sava Spa is it!.
I spent several wonderful hours at Sava Spa. Modern and clean design, yet very comfortable and calming. Extremely talented and friendly staff ( best manicure, best pedicure, artful eyebrow shaping, fantastic facial and a fabulous collection of casual, yet chic clothes. The materials feel so good, I left the spa wearing the new clothes. Luckily I bought several pieces, so when it is time to change, there is another great piece to slip into.
Joanna the owner is just lovely. She is top quality and delivers top quality! So does her friendly staff.
It is a shame that some ONE STAR reviewers ( although if you look closely and pay attention to writing style and same misspelled words, you realize it is one and the same person writing these reviews) abuse this site.
Sava Spa is a high carat diamond and a shining star!
I have been to Sava Spa now several times and the service has been consitently superb. I am looking forward to many more visits.
Superior Service-no two ways about it!.
I was shocked when I read those negative and poorly written reviews of Sava Spa. I have been a client of the spa from the day it opened and I have had nothing but superior service from all the staff there.
I have had about 35 pedicures there and they have all lasted for an impressive length of time. Although I do have a very tight budget I find the service worthwhile and clean! I find that the owner is an extremely intelligent and informative woman. While I was having one of my first facials, she noticed I had a certain skin condtion. I went to a top dermatologist a week later-and sure enough she was right!
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!.
Truly wonderful? Best Kept Secret? Simply Wonderful? my skin has never looked better? Wow. The owner must have spent quite some time writing these reviews.
Disclosure: I went once. And I?ve had enough. My esthetician was very nice, but the bill almost gave me a heart attack. My facial was ok, nothing special. My pedicure?a flake of varnish chipped off the next day and it was all ruined.
But that?s not the real issue I have with sava spa. You ready?
I actually know a person who worked there while in college and learned some behind-the-scene facts. Like that the owner is talking s*** about her (even old) costumers. She calls them names which I will not disclose here but one starts with a B and has a ?stupid rich? in front; and jokes about their being fat. Yup. It?s true ladies. Thought you should know. I?m plump myself and that made me see in red.
In fact, this place is a huge scam. The atmosphere among the employees is horrible? behind the scenes it?s like a jungle during a full moon. The owner is abusing her employees and will do everything to make the costumers (especially those poor ladies after 40) to buy a bunch of products they don?t need at all; only to laugh at their stupidity right after they?re gone.
Average treatments, bad service, mean owner. I don't recommend. Grow your nails people..
I wish I could give a zero-star rating to this place. I agree with the other reviewer since something similar happened to me.
I was held for 30 minutes before my treatment, and there was no renovation at that time ;/.
As for the owner, I wouldn't mind her, but I noticed how awfully mean she was to one of the girls working there. She didn't even hide it, but scorned the girl in front of other costumers. I don't expect a woman who was doing pedis all her life and barely speaks broken English to be exceptionally cultured, but that woman is horrid. I wouldn't pay her again if that was the last spa in the country.
Also, once their closing time was coming (but it was still 25 minutes to the scheduled closing time) and this depressing-looking long haired zombie girl started mopping the floor around me. I don't think she spoke any English at all, since she completely ignored me when I asked her not smear my new shoes with that dirty mop. ugh.
I can see why the other review is enthusiastic, since I've been at Sava Spa several times and I noticed that costumers that are friends with the owner or live in her building are treated way better. For us, average mortals, it's attitude, overcharges and waiting lines.
I don't see what the whole excitement about this place is about. I'm in the fashion industry and I know a lot about treatments since I deal with models and their looks a lot. Sava is not doing anything wrong in that part, but it's simply and absolutely AVERAGE. And the prices are hyper-ridiculous. NOT WORTH IT PEOPLE!
Very Poor Service. I do not usually leave reviews on websites such as these, but I am a disappointed customer of Sava Spa and would like to speak out after the NY Times piece that was so glowing. I was a repeat customer of Sava spa until I had a negative experience last month. I had set up a massage appointment almost a month ahead of time. I was called 15 minutes before my appointment to "confirm", which I thought was odd. When I got there, I was kept waiting for almost 30 minutes. I was not told why or what was going on. Since I was on a schedule I asked that my massage get turned into 30 minutes instead of an hour. I heard the manager of Sava Spa tell my massage therapist that I should get charged for an hour. Once in the room (finally) I was told by my massage therapist that there were not enough rooms for all of the appointments in the book, since Sava Spa was in the middle of renovations. He himself was upset and distracted since his room for his appointment was taken by someone else, and also upset since this was not the first time this happened to him. The 30 minutes I had with him, although he is good at what he does, was rushed and I spent the whole time feeling tense. If it was not for him speaking up for me, and handling the charges, Sava Spa would have tried to bill me for the whole hour, even though they had knowingly overbooked themselves without ever telling me. I felt extremely uncomfortable, my time and money was wasted - for what they are charging I will never go there again. There is no excuse for that kind of poor customer service in a place that supposedly prides itself on personal attention and privacy.
Best Spa care in the City--Hands down. Joanna, and her welcoming staff , are AMAZING. I have been going for brows and facials for 1 year now, and wholeheartedly feel that I've finally found the perfect blend of warmth and professionalism. Joanna is full of knowledge about skin care, and will to share her thoughts on all aspects of it, including nutrition--just ask! My skin has always been the envy of friends and strangers, but last year I experienced a break-out, and thought--"Oh no! This is the end of all these glory years!" But between just two facials, and some new skin care products that she suggested, Joanna has completely restored my skin (I am nearing 40, but people still guess that I am 28 or 29!). Her brows and other waxing are also wonderful. My brows have never looked better, and I just got my first bikini wax as well. Cannot say enough about Joanna's fantastic, professional care, her beautiful, serene salon, and her sincerity and kindness. Try it and you will see!
******HORRIBLE SERVICE, LONG WAIT, RUDE MASSEUR - NOT WORTH THE HYPE******.
THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING TO THIS SPA!!
After reading about Sava Spa on several sites, I decided to give this spa a visit for a badly-needed massage.
I was surprised to find the tiny "waiting area" (2 chairs, by the door), and the staff handed me some water and left me to wait, not bothering to check in on me until about 25 mins later when I was STILL waiting. (I had followed proper spa etiquette and showed up about 10 mins early) and even about 20 mins after my appt was supposed to start, I was STILL waiting, with no word from the staff as to when I would be seen.
Then, about 10 minutes after THAT a male staff member (OLD man) came out, walked past me twice without saying a word, and then the third time around, finally said he would be with me in a minute.
To my surprise, he was the one who would be giving the massage.
**PROFESSIONAL spas usually tell people AHEAD of time that they only have a man giving massages, because people do have preferences, and some - like me - prefer women. When I made the appointment, the staff member referred to the person who would be giving me a massage as "her."
So, being utterly disgusted with the long wait, lack of attention and professionalism, and not being told beforehand about the man who would be massaging me, I told him that I would not be staying and I told him and all of the attendants exactly why. - He was VERY nasty, CONDESCENDING and RUDE. After his behavior, I will NEVER go there again, and I WILL advise everyone I know NOT TO SPEND THEIR MONEY AT SAVA SPA.
A spa experience should be relaxing and soothing, not an encounter with nasty, snooty, unprofessional people. THE OWNER SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
I kept wondering why all of the reviews of this spa never mention the massages. Now I know.
Sava spa - NEVER again.
Absolutely superior facials. I have had problems with acne for years, and various medical treatments, including Accutane, have failed to permanently solve my problem. Anyway, I have always found that any decent facial does help my skin, and I have seen various aestheticians in several cities (including at New York's Mario Badescu, which I found to be nowhere near as good as its reputation had lead me to expect). Sava is the first place that has made the experience such a pleasure and so incredibly helpful that I actually look forward to the long trek from Brooklyn (where I live) or midtown (where I work) to Washington Heights -- a trek which I now make regularly, and which is helping me to achieve very good results with my skin. The place is so cute and spotless and everyone is so nice, attentive and welcoming. It's also extremely comfortable, with wonderful suede chairs in the waiting room and these luxurious cashmere blankets you lie under while you have the facial. A hundred bucks for any old facial is on the pricey side, but considering the service you get at Sava it is a bargain. I can highly recommend Marta's facials, but I would be willing to bet that anyone you'd get here would be fantastic. Recommendations for products are spot-on (and, I should add, not pushy at all).
my skin has never looked better. I've been visiting Sava regularly for about two years, and have always had a wonderful experience. Although I've had brow-shaping and waxing as well, the facials, and one recommended product in particular, have transformed my skin, and I regularly receive compliments from patients and others regarding my complexion. I can't thank Barbara enough! It's a wonderful atmosphere, and a delight to have such a service near my neighborhood.
