Editorial Review for Silk Day Spa – by Sandra Ramani
The Scene
Descend a staircase off Silk's street-level retail space and suddenly, you're in a whole other world: Rich fabrics, wood accents, flickering candles and Asian-inspired design mesh perfectly with supple leather seating and top-of-the-line equipment to create a vibe that's both modern and exotic. Past the amenities-stocked locker area and adjacent steam room, clients relax in a quiet, circular lounge; chairs here are separated by flowing curtains for added privacy.
The Services
Combining Eastern healing techniques with modern spa technology, Silk's services deliver visible results and ultimate relaxation. Massages incorporate a variety of modalities and focus on releasing blocked ki, or energy. Facials cleanse, oxygenate and fight aging using June Jacobs, Peter Thomas Roth and Darphin products; the decadent 90-minute Signature Facial is like a mini-vacation. Unique body treatments use ingredients like lemon sugar, papaya, mango or freshly grated apples to polish and tone. Waxing, manicures, pedicures and numerous packages are available.

The ExtrasMassage and facial rooms boast extra-lush linens and blankets, and a few rooms are big enough for two clients; one wet treatment suite includes a hot tub and deluge shower.

In my line of work (ad sales), I frequent many spas in New York with clients and I was so pleased with my recent appointments at Silk. My colleague and I took a small group of clients to Silk to treat them and I was blown away at how easy the staff at Silk made it for us. Upon arrival, the friendly staff took over and made sure that we were as comfortable and relaxed as possible. The beautiful locker room and "relaxation area" really made an impression on my clients and the therapist were “out of this world" as one client put it. We had a caterer deliver a few small treats to enjoy after our service and the staff took care of everything and set up a beautiful display for us while we were in our treatments. It's obvious they've definitely done this before and are very comfortable with accommodating groups. From booking to saying goodbye this was a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back!
Pros: Helpful and friendly reception, knowlegable and caring therapist, posh environment
Cons: None

Silk Day Spa has a beautiful interior, with Eastern-style design. The relaxation room is exotic and zen-like, and you can munch on yummy jelly beans and chilled water while you wait. The therapists I've worked with have all been lovely and accomodating ... the only suggestion I would make is that they need better trained behind-the-counter people - they always seem new and unsure of what they're doing. There's no sauna, but the locker rooms are spacious and lush, with showers and amenities.
Pros: Relaxation Room, Locker Rooms, Skill Level of Staff
Cons: No Sauna, Need Better Reception People
