“The staff is delicious, and the cut I got was sueprb.”
“My hair is difficult, so I usually give stylists extensive instructions in order to avoid disaster.”

I'm a fussy guy when it comes to my
hair. I'm the guy who gets his hair cut every three weeks so it never really looks like I need a haircut. I've been everywhere.
Then, I stumbled on Roger. I can't remember how many years ago, but now won't let anyone else touch my hair.
My hair grows very quickly, but he knows how to cut it so that, for most of the three weeks between cuts, I love the way it looks. It's a bit shorter at first, but it has to be.
I totally trust Roger. On occasion I've had to wait a bit, because he's taking his time with someone else, but that's fine with me. There are plenty of times I'm early and if he's free, he takes me early.
Everyone in the place is very friendly. They offer water, wine, whatever you want, when you walk in.
I sometimes have to rearrange my schedule and travel some to make it to my appointment, but I do it because Roger makes the trip worth it.
It's also a good place for guys to go. It has a feeling that is comfortable for men and women. Guys are some times put off if a salon looks like their mother's beauty parlor, but this is right down the middle, as it should be.
The price is right. The staff is great. Roger is awesome and just a heck of a nice guy.
absolutely perfect. best hair color i had in ages .perfect costumer service Arthur did an amazing color and cut . great ambiance .perfect spot to pamper your self
So glad I found Mike....
I've lived a life w/big, frizzy, curly hair always believing that noone could cut it in a natural style that I would feel attractive in. But, then, I found Mike. At the 23rd St location of A R Hair Salon is a surprise for ethnic hair... It CAN be cut wet and look great!
Not only will your hair look fabulous and get LOTS of compliments --- You're going to have a great time while you're there, too. Mike is hilarious and the rest of the staff is a lot of fun, too. Every time I go in, I am always made to feel so welcome and special.
But, Mike is not all fun and games. He is an artist and very serious about what he's doing. The last thing he will do is have you leave looking stupid. So, don't think you can talk him into chopping all your hair off or trying some style that will never fit your face or personality. He takes his time to study your natural hair pattern and he's going to disagree w/you if you're thinking about something that won't look right.
Just trust him and guaranteed you will leave looking and feeling sexy. :-)
Btw, I should probably add that I travel for these amazing cuts all the way from Long Island into Chelsea!
So, to all who live much closer than me, you should go check out this cool salon. Stop getting ripped off by people who claim they know what they're doing.
WORST HAIRCUT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!.
Honestly I have never had a worse haircut or more frustrating experience in my life.
My hair was literally chopped and I had to go to a different salon and get it fixed. I could say you get what you pay for but in this case that would be a lie, that is the last time I try to save money by going to a cheap salon. RUN from this place, and the one on 17th/8th.
went to the one on 17 st and 8th ave.. I went to the salon on 17th street, my buddy recommended it to me. I went in, and didn't ask for anyone in particular. I got Vicki. She was great! Very friendly and made me feel comfortable. The atmosphere of the salon was great! My hair looked amazing, it was like she did something new. I went to many different stylists, barbers, etc. And Vicki was by far the best. I will definitely come back!
**************. I have always had a difficult time finding a stylist who could provide my curly hair with a cut that grows well or highlights that look natural. This has been a difficulty even at salons that cater to curly hair. Arthur has been providing haircuts and highlights for me for about eight months. I have never felt as good about my hair and have never received so many compliments on it. Thanks .
perfect gem. I went to AR HAIR SALON to color my hair from blonde to brown. Michelle, my stylist, did an amazing job! I was very nervous about the change, but it turned out great! I was very happy with the result and will definitely be going back. The atmosphere was also very friendly, and whole experience was positive. Take advantage of their citysearch discounts
Arthur lived up to his reputation from all the reviews :). i was tired of my hair and wanted a fresh spring look ...since i am new to the area, i had to do some research to make sure i don't end up disappointed..well i looked on citysearch and saw that this AR salon had all those great reviews...i jotted down some stylist names mentioned the most and called to make an appointment..when Arthur answered the phone and said he had an opening i was thrilled since i read all sorts of great things about him..well lets just say im happy with my decision..he sat down with me..listened to my ideas and then gave me his recommendation..i went with it and my hair turned out great..the highlights and the cut are gorgeous and the complementary glass of wine was a nice touch..plus the 10% citysearch discount!
UGH. never ever ever again.
Ugh. I would give this place ZERO stars if i could.
So i booked an appointment for a single process color here after reading some positive reviews here and finding a deal on life-book. I should have know better when i walked in and the salon was DESERTED. I was the only client in there...and its a big space... I was seeing Rebbecca, who was very sweet and took my coat for me...that was the last nice thing that happened while i was there.
After i sat in her chair, i told her i just needed my roots touched up...i have had my hair the same shade of chocolate brown for about 5 years and I'm really happy with it. She proceeds to tell me that it is much too dark and ACCENTS the dark circles under my eyes and brings out the redness in my complexion too much. HEY LADY, THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL GREAT ABOUT MYSELF. she then tried to convince me to get a full head of highlights. NO, I SAID I JUST NEEDED MY ROOTS TOUCHED UP, THANKS.
so after much back and forth, she finally agrees and applies the color to my head. Half way through the processing, i notice my roots are MAGENTA. she notices too and without a word, slops another color on over it.
She then washes my hair with scalding water and brings me back to the chair to inspect the color. It seems MEH to me, but whatever...you get what you pay for.. so i go home, and in natural light, realize to my horror that my roots are in fact, STILL MAGENTA. I called the salon back, and told the receptionist that in this light, i was no longer happy. He was very polite and told me to come back whenever and they would fix it free of charge.
The next morning, i walked into the salon and attempted to explain the situation to the man at the front desk...appears he was the manager. I was halfway through explaining it when he cut in and basically told me i was lying and that he had spoken to Rebecca and she said, she told me she needed to fix it while i was still at the salon the day before!!! Actually, what she had said to me was, "it looks so good, you are going to love it" NOT "oh man, i screwed up. lets fix it ASAP"
i tried to tell the manager this, but he refused to listen and told me he would "take care of me this time, but in the future i should just listen to the stylist the first place" The attitude he took with me was appalling. I worked in an upscale hair salon for 5 years when i lived in Boston and WOULD NEVER HAVE TREATED A CUSTOMER THIS WAY. I was so disgusted with his behavior that i decided i would rather have to pay someone else to fix my hair than let this arrogant, sub par stylist touch me again. I have never in my life felt so unwelcome in a place where i am A PAYING CLIENT.
If you expect professionalism, courtesy, and skill in a salon then i would strongly suggest you stay away from AR salon.
Also, everyone there REEKS of cigarettes. not cool when they are working in close quarters and breathing in your face. Get some gum, okay?
