Rudest staff EVER.. I went here with a large group of friends on a Sat. night for a birthday party. All of us paid for open bar, and it was a pretty good deal... but SO not worth it considering the way I was treated by the bartenders there. I'm a pretty low-key person at bars, and so are the people I was with. No special requests, we were all patient, b/c we understood it was crowded, etc. Plus, we all tipped ) for each drink.

Not only did the bartenders take FOREVER with orders, but one in particular tried to be all fancy, flipping glasses around, and broke them several times in front of us, messed tons of drinks, acted extremely arrogant and rude, and decided it was necessary to get in my face (I'm a female, so yeah, not cool), sneer at me, and tell me (after I had tipped him for every drink mind you) that "tip is not included with open bar."

To avoid ranting on forever, I'll just say that more completely inappropriate comments were made throughout the night, and I felt really threatened. I reported this someone else who worked there, who kicked him out, but about an hour later he was back behind the bar spouting out more insults at not only me, but others I was with. Terrible. I've worked in the industry, and you just don't treat people like that - ESPECIALLY when they haven't done anything to warrant it.

On top of that, it was really cramped, not a fun or very pleasant scene. If you're a person who appreciates human decency, avoid this place like the plague.

Avoid if you want to keep your belongings. This is my first time writing a review on Citysearch but I feel I should warn people about this place. I went to Society for a birthday party last Friday night. The bartenders were friendly and the DJ played decent music, however it was nothing special compared to some of the other establishments in the area. Unfortunately, I could not find my jacket as I was leaving, so I left it and called the bar the next day to ask if anyone had happened to find it. After a quick check, the bartender or manager, Im not sure who, told me that they did have the jacket but that I should come in to retrieve it sooner rather than later. I told him that I could not make it that day (Saturday) but that I would be in first thing in the afternoon on Sunday. When I arrived just after opening on Sunday, I was told that my jacket could no longer be found, and that I should have come in ASAP because "things have a way of disappearing" there. This leads me to believe that not only did a Society employee steal my jacket (it was last seen behind the DJ booth, according to the employee I talked to), but that theft is an ongoing problem at this particular establishment. Given that there are numerous other honest places within a stones throw of Society, I would recommend trying one of those before ever considering this place again.

good place to pop in. had a bday party here. good mix of music. 80's, hip hop etc.. open bar. a little on the small side. We were not allowed to take advantage of the outdoor area since we had open bar. They also closed the outside after they finished serving dinner.

Diamond in the Village. The same cannot be said for any of the establishments along Bleecker Street-Row or in the near-by west village. Just a short walk from the subway, I am more than please with our experience this past Friday at Society.

Our party of 12 was very please with our experience. The allures of Society Bar and Restaurant are varied - aesthetically appealing, comfortable and personally gratifying. For starters, Society?s sizable open-air deck is lined with plush foliage and rolling ivy and is equipped with umbrellas and soft lighting, an ambiance that provided our group the perfect opportunity to catch-up with one another. Well-done!

Inside, the bar-restaurant is equally as spacious and nicely shaped, equipped instead with AC and live DJ. Our waitress was kind and expedient, the shrimp nachos are a MUST and specialty drinks refreshing.

Even the bouncer was cordial in our welcome. Sadly, not the case elsewhere.

At 1:00 am sharp, we made our transition from the deck to the dance floor. We rocked out until 3! The DJ set was sick.

Great spot, great Crowd. Scheduled a B-Day party for a saturday night about a month ago and was happily surpised by accomodating staff and great service. I've been frequenting on various nights since, and haven't been dissappointed yet. Some of the other reivews are a little harsh, I've never had a problem with the staff and the crowd has been a lot of fun. So far all the food has been great as well, so not sure what the negative reviews are talking about!

Amazing atmosphere and outdoor space!!!. I have been to Society on more then one occasion and the only thing i can say is, WOW, this place is fantastic. There is no other outdoor space like it in the city. The vibe is that of a neighborhood bar with a casual yet very hip crowd. The music is exactly what you want to hear when you want to hear it. I felt as if i was hanging out at a friends house and never wanted the night to end. The staff was friendly and attentive and I never had to look around for my waitress. Even though I live in the east village I come hear as often as i can.

A Decent Patio Area Is This Dump's Only Redeeming Quality. I went here on a Thursday with a group of about 8 co-workers. The weather was nice, the patio was open, and I was among friends so the stage was set for a good evening. Unfortunately things fell apart quickly. The first problem was the beer selection: lame domestics and no Heineken (only Heineken Light, ugh). They did have Stella, but the waitress failed to mention it when reciting their beers. And nothing on tap. The mixed drinks on the menu were boring and also over priced ($14 in some cases) . Our waitress, while smoking hot, was rude and catty and probably suffered from a mild to medium learning disability. After taking our drink orders, she proceed to bring them out to us TWO at a time and over the course of about 20 minutes. Apparently she never heard of a tray. What made this more absurd was the fact we were the only ones in there, literally. My vodka martini was also served in a little baby martini glass and the olives tasted like they had been marinating in bum urine. When it came time for the second round, we broke protocol and ordered from the bar. The waitress took issue with this and gave me dirty looks. Sorry lady, I'm not gonna wait a half hour for a drink.

Since we were too lazy to leave, we also ordered some food. Nachos were cold and the cheese was rock hard when they came out, Guacamole and salsa were bland. They did have some tasty looking sliders that we should have got, but didn't

When the place started to fill in, the patio became unnavigable. You couldn't move 3 inches without awkwardly contorting your body. Plus the trees had these little buds falling from them which got really annoying. Then a giant Stella umbrella fell on someone in our group. And finally, the tables and chairs were sticky and grimy.

Don't go here, this place suuuuuucks.

What's that smell?. I don't understand why this place is so highly rated. I went there recently and there was a terrible smell in the outdoor area like a garbage dumpster. The tap beer listed on their website wasn't available and the bottled beer selection was limited to the most run of the mill domestic brands. Won't be going back.

nice people. I love the staff here, very friendly and cute. I showed up with a couple friends on thursday. The food was great and came out quick and the drink service was on point. What really stood out though was just how nice and friendly the atmosphere was. Unfortunatly the wether wasn't cooperating so we couldnt fully utilize the putdoor patio. But according to the people there once it gets warm this is the place to be. Hopefully this hapens sooner than later.
