The Scene
It's amazing how so little material can inspire so much mystery and cost so much money. With mauve and black walls curving through the shop, the Meatpacking District location even explores sensuality in its architecture. As customers browse the latest lingerie collections, fat-free models snake down the runaways on video monitors hung from the ceiling.
The Goods
Remember the mortifying scene in "Bridget Jones's Diary" with her oversized granny panties? Renee Zellweger's character clearly hadn't shopped at La Perla. The intricately detailed apparel is luxurious, elegant and petite, and the lacy sets seem sophisticated rather than racy. In contrast to the panty-stuffed tables of Victoria's Secret, bras and teddies hang neatly and individually as if in a garment gallery. Bathing suits in the back of the shop are available for more public exposure.
