What People Are Saying About BLT Fish

Featured Review

Contributor

The Scene – Chef Laurent Tourondel's second eponymous eatery takes on seafood (the first was BLT Steak). The downstairs feels beach-shack casual with wooden booths and a raucous crowd. Upstairs could not be more different, with many diners flexing the corporate card. The bustling, open kitchen anchors one end of the dining room, but the retractable sky light roof is the room's dazzling centerpiece. Service on both levels is perky, and the soundtrack runs from Madonna to jazz. – – The Food – The upstairs menu is largely a la carte, however, bits of the seafood shack…

Editor's Tips

The Extras:
Stick with the gratis mini doughnuts, chocolates and cotton candy for dessert.
Know Before You Go:
Reservations are accepted for both downstairs and upstairs; items on the fish shack menu include clams, lobster roll, burger and apple pie.

  1. The most important part, the food, did not disappoint, and it was a treat to watch our big fish being filleted in front of us!
  2. And the desserts (pies and cupcakes) are delicious.
  3. Everything from the warm greeting I received at the door to the great desserts and port wine at the end of the meal made for a truly grand experience.

  6. look forward to coming back here for more great seafood in the future.
  7. It was a nice meal- but not as special as I hoped to be.
  8. ordered the crispy red snapper which was amazing and had some delicious wine that they reccomended.
  9. The fish is FRESH and the atmostphere is like Cape Cod, Sydney and Long Warf.
  10. At our last visit we enjoyed a nice lobster roll, BLT tuna (I wasn't to crazy about the egg in it) sandwich and a down of oysters.
  11. Both were tasty and prepared well but nothing very memorable.
  12. They have great quality food, which is what I look for most in a restaurant!
  13. We have frequently dined at BLT Steak and love the food, wine list and service.
  14. The food was delicous and the service was very attentive.
  15. Also, the swordfish with tartar sauce is amazing.
  16. The food is absolutely delicious, and the staff is accomodating, attentive, and generous.
  17. The sides were yummy and the service was excellent.
  18. The seafood was fresh however, the entrees were not all that interesting and the service was less than ok.

  22. was looking forward to a great meal all day.
  23. However, we had a very nice meal and the service was great.

  27. Their fish is wild raised, the food is great, and service was great too.
  28. As usual, food was good, but service was missing.
  29. good drinks, fresh seafood and good service.
  30. Our server, Faud was too pushy, our food was absolutely nothing great, the only thing good was the special which wasn't even on menu.
  31. The best is the 18 dollar single crab cake.
  32. The two side dishes - particularly the potato silver dollars - were excellent.
  33. The downstairs is just plain hideous from the help, to the clientel to, most importantly, the food.
  34. The seafood was fresh however, overpriced.
  35. sunday. The service and the food was excellent, especially the lobster roll.
  36. They have great fresh fish, oysters and your traditional new england seafood dishes.
  37. The garlic cheese bread was tasty, though you only get one small roll of it for the table, and my salmon was grilled nicely, but did not have a ton of flavor, even with the "spicy salsa" sauce.
  38. They offered a few fish to be carved tableside, unfortunately, after our great server was done butchering our turbot, it made me wonder if the trend of whole fish has something to do with the lack of ability to butcher fish correctly.
  39. The wait was inexcusable at one hour, the fish was mediocre at best, and the side dishes were inedible due to oversalting.
  40. And the Manhattan Clam Chowder had no thyme in it, and would have passed for a nice vegtable soup.
  41. The menu had an interesting concept, but Lime Cilantro Pesto and Ginger Ketchup are not interesting, nor would they go on anything more than a sandwich.
  42. Laurent Tourondel turns on the charm at the end of the meal with some surprisingly tasty cotton candy.
  43. food is great and service is professional.
  44. My wife and I visited the BLT Fish (upstairs) few weeks after they opened and we had an amazing meal.
  45. were OK, kind of tasty, but I've had equivalent or better quality in less expensive venues.
  46. Great seafood
  47. The tuna tartare was perhaps the best I'd ever had, and the Cantonese crispy red snapper was delicious.
  48. We always ask for recommendations when we dine, and instead of saying "everything on the menu great," (my restaurant pet peeve) they suggested specific items that truly were delicious.
  49. Yes, the food is pretty good here, but trust me its NOT worth it because of the absolutely horrid service.
  50. Horrible service & Overrated food
  51. Lately they started to offer delivery and pick up to make it even easier to enjoy these delicious delicacies.
  52. got the wasabi soy sauce which wasn't great.
  53. Also tried the hen of the woods mushrooms - very good.
  54. Having heard the hype about the BLT locations, I thought this would be the most elegant, delicious, and fanciest lunch I've had in a while.
  55. highly recommend the lobster roll, very good and it comes with shoe string fries and side cole slaw.
  56. Great food, great service
  57. The best seafood in the city!
  58. If you're looking for a moderately priced causal dining spot with terrific drinks and great food, the first floor cant be beat.

  61. At lease food was good, but fries were soggy.

Great food and service

by Gaby

The seafood here is really good, and the waiters are really helpful in explaining the menu. I had never really been to a seafood place like this before and I really enjoyed it. As you walk in downstairs it is more casual and rowdy, but the upstairs is nicer if you have a reservation for a special occasion. I would definitely recommend it!

One of the best in NYC for seafood

by ThomMoore

I have been a fan of the BLT restaurants since they opened in New York. My wife and I visited the BLT Fish (upstairs) few weeks after they opened and we had an amazing meal. Upstairs called the BLT Fish which is the upscale dining and downstairs called the BLT Fish Shack and it's a lot more casuals just as the name implies.

We go upstairs (reservations a must) mainly on special occasions but downstairs you just walk in whenever you feel like. If they don't have a table available just wait or eat at the bar. Great Raw Bar selection with variety of East and West Coast oysters, crab claws, clams, etc. If you like your raw bar you'll be glad you came here.

At our last visit we enjoyed a nice lobster roll, BLT tuna (I wasn't to crazy about the egg in it) sandwich and a down of oysters. They also have daily specials so you should check it out. Lately they started to offer delivery and pick up to make it even easier to enjoy these delicious delicacies.

One final comment, if you are wearing black pants watch out for the cloth napkin, leaves tons of lint on your black pants.

A must for seafood lovers

by Represent0the0ppl

I've been to both parts of this restaurant BLT Fish, and BLT Fish Shack.

BLT Fish is elegantly causal and has a great menu! Their fish is wild raised, the food is great, and service was great too. My boyfriend and I went there for our anniversary last Friday. It was the first time we've been there for dinner, and we had a great time. They have a retractable glass roof, and a large open kitchen, which adds more points to the ambiance. It was amazing!

They have an amazing full raw bar, and a fantastic wine list with so many selections! (One of the many reasons why we loved it there.)

The BLT Fish Shack is a little more casual, and they have a bar down there. They deliver also (great for those rainy days). I've been there many times. It's supposed to be like a classic New England Fish House in a way. It's great for quick bites also. I love their lobster roll, and my boyfriend loves their BLT Tuna Sandwich. They have great lunch and dinner specials. It's really worth it! My niece always gets their coloring books - they have quite some pages for her to color in, and some games in it also. She always enjoys that. You should most definitely call for a reservation, because you might have to wait a while for a table.

Altogether, both restaurants are fantastic. I have also been to BLT Prime, Steak, and Burger, and most definitely am planning on visiting BLT Market as well. They have great quality food, which is what I look for most in a restaurant! And who can beat their wine selection (over 450 wines)? You definitely get more than what you paid for! Exceptional food and service. Great atmosphere. Have been to the Shack many times, and last Friday was my first time at the main BLT Fish restaurant upstairs, and loved it there. I have, and definitely will go back, and recommend this restaurant to all seafood lovers!

  • Pros: wild fish
  • Cons: should have a reservation, otherwise you might wait awhile

Fantastic Dover sole

by boywonderesq

The four of us went to BLT Fish last night and had a great time. The clear highlight was the amazing dover sole, which is definitely worthy of the press it gets. And frankly, for a $50 piece of fish, it better be! The creamed corn with chanterelles special was also incredible, but we weren't into the goat cheese risotto, surprisingly. We went because Bruni gave it three stars (twice), and we can see why. Highly recommended.

  • Pros: Great fish, great ambience (upstairs)
  • Cons: High-priced fish, but worth it
