Editorial Review for The East Side Company Bar – by Erin Behan
The Scene
Sasha Petraske, most famous for the cocktail hideaway Milk and Honey, brings the same aesthetic to his second venture. The storefront in the lower, Lower East Side is practically unmarked--a tiny gold sign is its only indication--but the bar is open to all. The dark, narrow space feels like a generously appointed subway car. Gorgeous decorative tin covers the ceiling, and dark wood booths and small tables line the space. Though the bar lends itself to quiet dates and small gatherings of friends, it can get loud and crowded.
The Draw
Fresh-cut fruit, juices and garnishes top the bar, and the bartender will whip up whatever you desire--just name a favorite liquor and ingredients. This creative mixing philosophy encourages the plucky drinker to experiment. Whatever your pleasure, bring your strongest palate: The barkeep's heavy hand and pure, clean flavors will have your head spinning in no time.

Insider Tips
Where to SitDown the narrow hallway, a surprisingly large room with a DJ booth awaits the demure party. Arrive early to nab the 10-person booth, or to score the intimate nook next to the door. There's no seating--only standing--at the bar.
The ExtrasEven on a Saturday night during prime hours, the bouncer is cordial, friendly and professional--if it's not too packed (which, surprisingly, it usually isn't) he'll be happy to accommodate you, no matter your girl-to-guy ratio.

I used to love this place, being the cocktail snob that I am. But lately the drinks have been sloppy. Too tart, not cold enough (not stirring enough maybe?), bitter (get that pith outta there), or just plain bland. What happened to the impeccable cocktails? I love this bar and don't want to give up on it.

This is hands down my favorite bar in the city. The bartenders/waitresses are friendly and the cocktails are unbelievable. This is a cocktail bar. They have a very limited supply of liquor/beer brands. They are all top notch, but don't go here looking for a johnny walker black on the rocks, or a grey goose martini. It gets very crowded on weekend nights, and the drinks do take a while to make. So if you are looking for a 3 dollar cup of swill, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a fantastic cocktail to enjoy with a couple of friends, look no further.
