Editorial Review for Lure – by Josh Ozersky
The Scene
Beige banquettes, dark blue accents and a ribbed ceiling set a seafaring tone; round fixtures and copper accents further the cruise-ship vibe. The space draws a similarly showy crowd. The attractive staff looks good, but can be stretched too thin.
The Food
It's a modern take on the old, big-time seafood house. Mom can have her shrimp cocktail and Dad can dig into a heavenly bowl of clam chowder, bearing tender whole clams and bits of bacon. Both can enjoy treats from the sushi bar. Trendier palates will swoon over gorgeous strips of raw black bass topped with shredded jicama, ginger and plum-wine gelee; red snapper with a martini-like topping of olives, lime and red-chili flakes; and foie gras and tuna, skewered and topped with pineapple. Among the entrees, best is the swordfish, sliced atop sweet roasted tomatoes and drizzled with soy-ginger marinade.

Dinner was ok. the apps were the best part. My husband had raw oysters which looked good. I didn't have any because I am pregnant :( I had grilled octopus for apps - delicious. I had Brazino fish as my entree which I have never had...it was good - light, fresh and clean but a bit on the plain side. Came with a small side of sticky (?) rice. It was ok but i was still hungry. Maybe I should have gotten some sides. Husband had Daurade fish...it was whole but filleted. Everything was fine. We were having a pleasant evening until the very end. We paid our bill which was still on the table for the waiter to collect and my husband was just finishing up his wine when the waiter came up to us and told us that they need the table for someone else who has a reservation!! I was so mad. We had a reservation as well and if they needed that specific table they should have sat us elsewhere or at the very least tell us that that table will be needed at such and such time. The point is we were about to leave why even say anything?? It was just a bad decision on the waiters part to even say that to us - poor timing. We complained to the manager but he was a waste of time as well. I wasn't expecting a free meal...but a sincere apology!! I would say dont bother going...there are a lot of other NYC seafood restaraunts that are better in quality and service. Go to Blue Water Grill....better service and better food!
Pros: great raw bar and apps
Cons: service was atrocious and very bad decisons made by staff as to seating and communication

Leave it to the staff at Lure to take ALL of the "happy" out of the supposed happy hour experience... The food & drinks here are great, but the service is a deal breaker. The entire time our group was eating, drinking, and trying to enjoy ourselves, multiple staff members kept sternly reminding us they'd be kicking us out of our booth when happy hour ended, regardless if we were not done or were still willing to order at regular prices. I wish I could take back my tip from last night. They are so unacceptably rude..
