Editorial Review for R.U.B. – by Erin Behan
The Scene
The requisite wooden tables are filled with families, friends and dates, and the casual air and free tea refills encourage patrons to relax and stay awhile. Though some may find the atmosphere bland--a menu chalkboard is the only real decoration--this barbecue palace doesn't disappoint.
The Food
Barbecue pro Paul Kirk gives New Yorkers a taste for Midwest-influenced cue. His St. Louis-style ribs, meaty and firm but tender, taste deeply of hickory smoke. The pulled pork is almost too clean and benefits with a pairing of the addictive onion strings, while the heavily spiced sausage is tangy but forgettable. In contrast, the clever East Meets West duck, with a sweet-spicy glaze, triumphs, rivaling the ribs in appeal. Given the menu's range, it's too bad there's only one tomato-based sauce on the table. Sides offer hearty support, including a respectable potato salad and cole slaw.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasYou would be remiss to not sample the fried Oreos. Covered in a funnel-cake type batter, these babies plump when you fry them for a hot, gooey ending.
What to DrinkThe sweet tea is shockingly sweet; order it half-sweet, half-unsweet for less teeth curl. Or just head straight for the beer: Drafts include Brooklyn White and Pilsner Urquell.

Great waitress service and outstanding ribs. BBQ sauce is amazing, Don't forget the extra napkins, gets a bit messy. Good selection of beers too.
Pros: Messy BBQ
Cons: MESSY BBQ

Went to R.U.B. last night, here goes: Beer selection was very good, we waited a good hour to sit(on a saturday night, that was expected)the staff was a little harried but helpful.I had the pulled pork sandwich, it came on a nice roll and was not bad.The beans were a little too spicy, and didn't need to be. The cornbread was off the hook, but the fries were overspiced and soggy. It seemed the food was a bit oversmoked and overspiced but , overall, ok.I would reccomend going midweek, when its a little less crowded.
