Editorial Review for The Stanton Social – by Erin Behan
The Scene
A high and mighty air prevails at this dressed-up Lower East Side eatery. The soaring main dining room makes an impression with its high tin ceiling, soft rounded banquettes and small back balcony framed by the restaurant's wine selection. Servers hover one moment and vanish the next.
The Food
The "fun" factor is high on the menu of experimental, multi-ethnic shared plates. Tender Kobe beef sliders, sweet chunky lobster rolls and mango-studded red snapper tacos look almost too cute to eat. And it'd be easy to become an oyster addict with the restaurant's Rockefeller, breaded, deep-fried and topped with bacon. For less-traditional fare, try the French onion soup dumplings--their liquid soup center bursts in the mouth--but steer clear of the confused beef short rib ravioli. Larger plates like the wasabi-pea salmon satisfy, but lack flair. For a simple finish, the piping hot sugar-coated doughnuts do the trick.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasTravel up a separate front staircase to the delicate bar with small antique hand mirrors on the wall, a green tile-topped bar and low Japanese-style seating.
Know Before You GoThough it is right next to the happily divey Arlene's Grocery, the restaurant attracts a hip, well-heeled crowd. Dressing the part is recommended.
Save MoneyDo check your cocktail bill because the bar rounds up the amount to the nearest dollar---you can ask for your change.

Very unusual place with great food, decor and service. My wife and I choose Stanton Social to celebrate our anniversary on a Tuesday night . We didn't make a reservation but were seated right away. Everything we tasted was very good. We loved "share your meal" concept of this place. French onion Soup Dumplings and Kobe beef burger are a must! Black Magic cocktail was also very good ( if you like Guinness beer and champagne combination). Highly recommended!!!!

My friend booked a reservation at Stanton Social over a week and a half before we went, and the best time slot they could give us was 5pm. When we got there, the entire restaurant was empty! Some of our party was late because of torrential rain. The waiters were rude from the start telling us that we had to be out by 7. They continued to stand over us until we ordered something. The rest of our party arrived and was rushed into ordering; the food that they said would arrive at a leisurely pace, was thrown out one after another. The food is decent but don't ever go there if you are hungry. The portions are tiny and to top it off, the waiter started clearing the table while I still had food on my plate and was in the middle of eating. I was appauled. More than $700 later, we had barely gotten dessert before we were rudely rushed out. To leave hungry and unhappy after the amount we spent, is just terrible. Drop the attitude- you are on the lower east side.
