Tips for Queens Food Stamp Office

HRA in Queens Northern Blv. is the worst undermanaged social service organization run by the city of New York. Their employees treat people worse than animals because they believe that they have their lives in their hands. For an organization that is supposed to be about human administration and services to the people it is quite damage because of the employees they have

There is one girl with red highlight is quite evil, I asked her name and she just told me bettcha (what name is this) today she was in cubicle # 3. Waited three hours to get answers and the only she did was to print a budget letter, no explanations, she is arrogant, malicious, cynical, mocking, and unprofessional with clients. She spent most of her afternoon texting on her phone and pretending she was working while chatting with security guards. The room was full with people. She does not belong there. Commissioner and Mayor Bloomberg , HRA needs to be revamped, you need to clean house and bring standards and professionalism to this organization. HRA is not a human resources administration it is a joke and brings shame to the city of NYC and its residents.

Well here is my TIP. 1st if your not extremely patient you should meditate, pray etc.. before going. The wait is excruciating to say the least. Most of the staff are nasty & sarcastic. Which youll understand why. Most of the people looking for assistance are worse to the staff and each other. It looks like everyone has a 400 I-phone there screaming on the phone or one of there several kids. Then the jewelry most of them were and clothing is so expensive I dont understand how. All this combined makes for a view of chaos, frustration and anger. Wheather it's a street image or a institutional mentality is very overwhelming. The lies they tell. The staff appear to pick & choose who there hoing to make jump through hoops. 1staff member asked a lady to bring in the deed to the building she lived in! what the HECK is that have to do with anything. She rents there. But it had nothing to do with her being the only caucasian with red hair. and he being african american. No I doubt that. because he didn't ask anyone else for that information. So if you have to go be aware

Not Helpful To Those In Need. I spent the worst 3 hours of my life at the Long Island City Food Stamp Office. Once I got a "counselor" she didn't even look at nme - did not identify herself and seemed like I was generally wasting her day. She asked me for information that I did not seem relevant - namely how I spent my money during the year. I told her that did not seem pertinent. What was important that I have $0 money now - no job - I take care of my 90 year old mother. She called over her supervisor. I said the same thing to her. She told me I was being disrespectul. Then told me me go sit in the other side of the room - like I was being punished. I asked for my papers back and told her I was done. She following me out saying if you make a complaint make sure you tell them you were disrespectful. These are people President Obama can be very proud of NOT.

Applications are never processed. Very unreliable as you may expect from any govt run business.

I left an application and they said they will contact me for an interview in about 10 days. They never called- it's 3 moths now. Called the number and spoke with somebody who said i should wait because they will call. After this I was never able to speak w somebody again. Nobody answers and their box is full there is no way to leave any message.

They should be sued, I will look into this to see if it is possible. Meanwhile all these workers are paid from our tax dollars.

LONG LINES & LIARS. Its a government agency so always expect a long line. In order to do anything at this facility you first have to stand on a long line (usually 20 - 60 minutes) to get a ticket to go to another part of the building where you can now sit and wait (another 20 to 60 minutes) to be called and taken care of.

If you go the first time and they say you have to come back with more documents you have to go through the same waiting again. And don't believe them if they say "just show this letter and you come right through without having to wait." That's a lie. There is no way to physically proceed anywhere else in the building without receiving the colored paper ticket after waiting on "the line."

And after all that if you get a Notice of Decision on your food stamps with a phone number of 718-784-6123 or 718-752-7975 don't call they are more of a waste of your time! These are voice mail systems that are never answered!!! I called every day for two weeks and no one returned my call to set up an appointment. I even threatened to contact the mayor's office and the governors office, which I did with still no results. If you have a problem just go back and wait on the line AGAIN to speak to a counselor.

<If this system allowed me to put NEGATIVE STARS I would definitely rant it a negative 5 stars>
