What People Are Saying About Paris Commune

This West Village French-American bistro is best known for its brunch menu, which features build-your-own omelets in addition to fancier offerings like foie gras and caviar eggs benedict ($27) and truffled eggs ($17). The setting is lively, with dark wooden tables surrounded by red and white rooster wall papering. At night, the atmosphere is somewhat more staid and the prices are more reasonable as compared to the relatively costly brunch dishes. Filling entrees such as beef bourguignon and pork tenderloin hover in the $25 range--standard for dinner in this neighborhood. Between 6pm and 7:30pm…
Editor's Tips
- Fun Fact:
- The restaurant's website lists Candace Bushnell as its favorite customer, citing the author as the inspiration behind its rose petal-garnished Jungle Red cocktail, made with pineapple vodka and pomegranate juice.
- Know Before You Go:
- The restaurant takes reservations for dinner, but not for brunch (which is served daily--not just on weekends).
- The Extras:
- The intimate Rouge Wine Bar in the restaurant's cellar can be booked for private parties.

Good Bye at last!
by Sirio
Good news! Paris Commune is closing..... Confirmed by 2 people. First a member of the residential board at 99 Bank Street where Paris Commune it located told me The owners of Paris Commune are 10 months behind on rent. Second a friend who was attempting to book the wine bar for an event was told they cannot accept advanced reservations for parties because they are closing.
HORRIBLE, RANCID and RUDE

Manager called me a stupid b*tch after arguing with me that the mussel were fine. Two at my table had sent the back because they tasted rancid. Creme Brulee was cold and lumpy. Did I mention the manager called me a stupid b*tch?
Beware!

Beware..It's gone downhill considerably--Went last Saturday night with party of 6 and a series of small unpleasant incidents and 1 large one made it an unpleasant evening-There were a number of empty tables which has never happened on a Saturday night-Ushered to a cramped corner table where we had to pass dishes back and forth to waiters and busboy-White wine arrived warm--After ordinary appetizers served, had to ask for bread--Entrees for 5 of us rated from fair to ok-I ordered the duck which was more than liberally coated with garlic and herbs, the reason being, that the duck itself had absolutely no taste it was like eating cardboard(I tried about 4 bites)--When the waiter asked how the food was, I told him my duck was pretty bad-He offerred to bring me something else, but by then my companions were almost finished, and I did not want to dine alone so I gratefully declined-When he came back for dessert orders he said the manager, Jamie, offerred me a complimentary dessert, but he would not take the duck off the bill, because he had tasted it and said it was just fine--I had never asked for the duck to be taken off the bill, but Jamie was sending me a message that his tastebuds were superior to that of a paying customer's-I'd never had a situation like this in any restaurant, anywhere--Desert arrived--4 of our party ordered the gingerbread and said it was tasteless(Must have been prepared by the duck chef)--A fairly hefty handwritten bill arrived(the credit card machine was broken) with a 20 percent tip included-I normally tip 20 percent for good service, but usually like it to be my decision--I hope Jamie gets part of the tip so he can afford to take lessons in "customer relations" and perhaps, get himself, a tastebud transplant!

Love Hugo. He helped make my Birthday Celebration in Rouge Wine Bar FANTASTIC. Rouge was decorated with Rose petals and candles and the passed apps were to die for. Everyone loved it. See you next year.

Absolutely Wonderful
by KtotheJ
We had a party in the private room downstairs and it was absolutely perfect. We had our own bartender, a private space and great food. Agnes was our bartender and she was 100% accommodating and friendly. When we arrived, our food was already prepared and the room was gorgeous. We bought a few of their party platters, and then our friends drank from the bar. It was very affordable. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a wonderful party with good friends. THANK YOU PARIS COMMUNE for making our party such a success. We look forward many more!
