“slow service, bad food”
better than any other diner. My husband and I went to cup for breakfast. We were seated promptly when we entered but the place was cold. I had to wear my jacket until I ordered a coffee to warm up...which arrived in a huge cup...hence, the name. the food was cheap for the area and better than most other diners I have gone to. The serving size was also huge... and we could not finish it all (I had a vegetarian omlet and my husband had pancakes). The service was sub-par. The place was fairly empty (we went on a tuesday) but we still had to call our server over to wait on us. She was friendly but dim-witted as she forgot to place my order for extra toast. These things happen though. I would come back again.
Good Food, Poor Service.
Pros: food is usually good. great selection from burgers to pasta to omelettes. great setting with lots of space and light. comfortable seating.
Cons: service is terrible. i've gone about 15 times because i live one block away. almost all of those times, i've gotten poor service. the staff is not rude, just not attentive. a number of times, i've stood there waiting to be seated while staff members chatted amongst themselves ignoring me.
Overall: still better than average. not the greatest dining experience but the food quality and selection makes me go back. if you're not afraid to be pushy and demand service, then this shouldn't bother you too much. otherwise, go visit one of the many other restaurants in the area.
Great late night..
After reading all the bad reviews... I had to post.
4am Friday night. Great food, excellent service. I'd highly recommend. Maybe they're doing something to turn the place around.
Editorial Review. Factory-sized diner dishes out panini, salads, burgers, pastas and hot entrees near the Musuem of the Moving Image.
Dependable Above Average Diner. We've eaten there quite a few times for brunch and dinner. Except for a couple of slow serves when they were really busy, it is a good spot with food that is much better than the average diner.
Worst dining experience I've ever had. This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I've never had such bad service before, I put all the blame on the management. My brother ordered crabcakes benedict, had to send them back twice because the were over cooked. Mind you we had to grab the manager to get them the second time. I ordered a fruit salad which I never got, we never got the juices we ordered. Never got our coffee refilled. So, when we asked for a manager...... He tells us that our waitress is dying of the flu. Then he tells us that we should have grabbed him ten minutes earlier, and to never wait around for bad service. He put the blame on us for getting bad service.
CUPS IS A DISGRACE, terrible customer service. The food was ok but my phone order was frieghtning. Sitting here at work and was just hungry looking through the menus. I saw that CUPS had a big burger for a fair price so I called them up. Wish I didn't do that. The snob waitress that answered the phone spoke to me as if I owed her something. She was very very nasty, short and distasteful. BAD ATTITUDE. When I called up the first thing I sayed was that I wanted to use a credit card. She was putting so much energy into being smart and rushing my order that she hung up the phone without even asking for the card number. If a customer calls your restaurant with a credit card order are you not supposed to ask them for the information. I also requested that no pickle or cole slaw be included in my order. When I called her back to give her the number she sayed "I don't read minds...umm humm" . Very stink and nasty, almost bit my head off through the phone. For this reason alone I will never order from this place again and I will definitely never visit the place. Queens is full of joints with better service and more courteous people. I plan to visit only to complain to the manager. NOT RECOMMENDED.
MY CUP OF TEA. I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE AT CUPS.EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!THE BIG CUPS OF COFFEE WERE DELICIOUS!I LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE TURKEY BACON!AND THE OMELETE I HAD WAS TO DIE FOR!I JUST HOPE THE SERVICE STAYS THAT WAY BECAUSE I DEFINETLY PLAN TO GO BACK THERE!
Like an abusive relationship, I continue to go back for more....
I want to love Cup, really I do - but the service and general attitude of their waitstaff is so awful that it kills it for me. Generally speaking the place isn't that bad - the food is very good and it's affordable, but week after week it's the same thing. Their staff are younger kids with bad attitudes. If they're not dumb, they're mean.
I've spoken to a manager there on a few occasions (he's younger and very cool) and explained my thoughts and he agrees - his staff is no good. He blames his management (ironic) but nonetheless... I order delivery only.
Cool Atmosphere, Great Food, Weird Service.
I live in the neighborhood so I have eaten there and gotten take out quite a few times. I love the food but the service leaves something to be desired. I agree with a previous review that admitted you can't expect too much from teenagers, and I suspect the review that claims the waiters aren't teenagers IS a waiter at Cup, and a teenager! Service is very slow which is sometimes ok, but you have to read your table. I once ate there and was passed off to another waitress without being told - so that me and my party were waiting for refills and to order more courses without knowing who to go to. We actually had to get up and find someone twice. That kind of thing should not happen - their take-out person also seems preoccuppied but that's another story I guess.
I love their fries - I prefer the steak but the curly is good too! I also love their grilled cheeses and their iced coffee (though probably not together!)
