Good Thai food in a great atmosphere. They are quick, efficient and extremely friendly at this St. Marks eatery and know how to deal with large groups well!
Great find all around – This is one of my favorite restaurants! The food is really amazing and the atmosphere is very hip and pleasant. Its a fairly large, dimly lit place, and its usually packed on the weekeekends. there is usually atleast a 10 minute wait but its worth it! great place to go with friends.
Affordable but food is inconsistent – Tasty and affordable food in St. Marks. Cheap drinks. Only $4 a beer. Great mixed drinks. The Lamb El Saan is very good. The other Lamb with chili sauce wasn't so good. Maybe the consistency is not there. Seating for large group (6 or more people) is awful. You get put in the back near the open kitchen. Seats are better for 2 or 4 people. However, this is a great place.
Best Thai in town – The food is absolutely fantastic here. Everything tastes light, fresh, and delicious, especially the staple pad thai and the fantastic key lime pie (best I've ever had). I have eaten here on many occasions, and get delivery frequently, and the food is always well prepared and the service impeccable.
The restaurant can get very crowded, and some of the seats aren't the most comfortable in the world, but the food, service, and general atmosphere all make up for that slight inconvenience.
Can't see what I'm eating and got sick eating what I can't see! – So I went to Klong with my boyfriend recently for dinner. We were seated inside along the benches with the water feature - careful not to drop anything. Anyways, we were given menus and we could barely read it because it was so dark. Not even the little tea candle helped with the reading. We weren't the only ones to struggle with the menu. I saw that they were serving soft shell crabs - yummy!!
The soft shell crabs were served with two pieces cut in half. It was battered and fried up and drenched in the spicy basil sauce. I don't think I tasted the soft shell crab. All I tasted was the typical spicy basil sauce. I shared some of it with my boyfriend who really enjoyed it.
I'll spare you the gross details. Whatever you do, DO NOT ORDER THE SOFT SHELL CRABS. Unless you're in the mood to up chuck when you really want to go to sleep, DO NOT ORDER THE SOFT SHELL CRABS!!
Great Thai food – Green curry is great and the pad prik khing is good as well. The extra spice they offer gives it a little kick. The Samui drink is great if you like coconut and the martinis are good but a bit strong. We got there before 7 and it wasn't too packed.
By far the best Thai in NYC. – Klong is by far the best Thai in NYC. It's a relatively inexpensive as opposed to a lot of restaurants like it in the city. It's atmosphere is super hip & trendy with decorations like hanging beads instead of doors, metal sculptures that somehow work their way around the room and end up being seats and abacuses attached to the wall. The only real issue I have is the basement. It's SMELL sometimes creeps up into the restaurant. They really need to put a DOOR instead of hanging beads at the top of the stairwell to the basement. Other than that, I bring all my friends there and it has also become THEIR favorite Thai spot. Love it. Would definitely recommend. Just don't go on a Friday or Saturday between 7-10...the crowding is INSANE.
Best thai food in town!! – I went to Klong on Sat night for the first time and I really had a nice dinner there. I've tried thai food many times from different thai places cause I love it and I could say that the food at Klong was really awesome. There were many interesting things to choose and I decided to try Mandalay Basil as my server recommended cause I love seafood and spicy. It was amazinggg!!! I really love it ,seafood were fresh and so tasty. And I also love the klong cocktail . It was a little strong but it was good. Service was great even it was quite busy.
I'd love to say that it's really nice place for dinner. Definitely come backkk!
great staffs – the service is superb (extremely polite, ridiculously patient ,instructive and informative, very appropriate), the cocktail selection is quite decent. the appetizers are great. i went there on staurday night and the place was packed. there could be more of a waiting area, but then you can put in your name and give them your cellphone number and they will call you when your table is ready. i don't remember the music. definitely will go back. maybe on weekday night.
nice thai restaurant – Klong is very Trendy for Location and the food itself, not a "typical Thai food" but it was very TASTY. Yummy spring rolls is very good and Tuna Tar Tarthe BBQ is delicious. For Entree, try the Pumpkin Curry with chicken. The service was Excellent and friendly. I always enjoy having dinner there for past 3 years !!! Can get too busy on saturday night.
excellent thai – I eat at Klong several times a month and friends from other parts of NYC and even from out of town often come to see me just to go to this restaurant. Their food is great. Plain and simple. Sometimes they are inflexible on substitutions, but thats the only negative I have. Seriously, try it for yourself. I often get beef in a basil sauce and pad thai. But, their Pomegranate duck is very great. Their servers are very nice too. Try this place!
