Great Ambient.
A great option for a date or a drink with a friend ( cozy atmosphere, chill out music).Really cool place with delicious hummus and paninis. My fav Chicken Shishkebab :P
Madly choice of wines! Recommended.
Graet date spot. I went here on a first date recently and had a great time. The ambiance was intimate and good for conversation. We drank some wine and time flew by. The staff was friendly and available when needed. Highly recommended.
Pros and Cons.
Pros: Nice venue, good wine, very cosy, looks like a great date place
Cons: Rude service, slow service
Event: I was part of a group that did drinks at Turks & Frogs several nights ago. The first group (3) had a few drinks and the second (3) joined us later. We both had seperate checks. We drank at the bar. The bartender got into an argument with the other group when they tried to pay their check because he insisted on a bigger tip. Now if I don't call that rude/bad service I don't know what is. Also, very very very slow service in ordering food.
Small and intimate, great wine selection, but don't come hungry. It's a sliver of a place in the West Village. Food consists of small plates of appetizers and a few sandwiches. It's the wine list that shines. I discovered a couple great Turkish white wines I never new existed. At an average of $10 for half a glass, the night will probably not be cheap, but you will learn... and taste something new. The harried staff of two (one Turk, one Frog?) manage the place in a brisk, but friendly way. It's crowded, but if you find a table you can have a cozy, even intimate, time. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
Love Turks & Frogs!. Turks & Frogs is a really cozy, neighborhood lounge and wine bar in the West Village. Very nice selection of wines and tasty finger foods. There is a really nice vibe here and although I went with a friend, it would also be great for a date. Highly Recommended
What happened?? Such rude service destroys and old favorite. I used to love Turks and Frogs as a place to end the evening with a glass of wine, a cup of tea or some snacks. But I went in last night with three friends and the barman/waiter was so rude that it will put me off for life. He was so angry and rude and never smiled once. He walked away after a friend wanted to order a vodka tonic, told me apple tea was not possible (it used to be on the menu), scoffed when we asked for a mixed appetizer plate and really destroyed the buzz of the evening for everyone. Please bring back apple tea and the cozy friendly service that used to make this a great neighborhood bar!
Great Neighborhood Place!. I live in the West Village and have walked by this place many times. The store front, which is decorated with unusual antiques, always caught my eye. My wife and I went in last Thursday for a glass of wine. We were pleasantly suprised by how warm and cozy the place feels. Also, the owner, Osman, was working behind the bar and was very welcoming and warm. We enjoyed ourselves so much we ordered a bottle of wine and a variety of appetizers. We were told to come back for a few games of backgammon. We will be back for sure! If you are looking for an authentic, friendly place, this is the one.
OK date place. I was there on a date and it was an OK setting. It was dark and romantic inside with the red lined walls but it felt overdone. The front area of the bar was cramped but there were plenty of seats in the back.
Not impressed. This place was a big disappointment. The atmosphere is nice, but the wine list is limited, and the servers seem to know very little about the wines they serve. Also, our waiter was the same person who prepared our food--he kept having to run back to his prep area, obviously overwhelmed--and it took 45 minutes to get a basic appetizer. Then, he forgot to make the second dish we ordered, and we waited another 20 minutes. I will say the food tasted pretty good, but overall it was just unprofessional and not a great experience.
Nice wine. Nice variety of wine. Casual environ. but not romantic. Unless you are in the back red room, seats are not comfy. Over all decor leaves a bad taste in your mouth but the wine makes up for it. Friendly service. Night we went, there were 2 bar hosts that looked like Fabio with dark hair.
