The Scene – A long, sake-lined bar, back-lit with a red glow, leads into a bright middle room, dominated by an even longer sushi bar framed with a Pollock-esque design. Tucked behind the bamboo fountain is a sexier nook, outfitted with shoju-screen windows and dark wood details. – – The Food – There's more here than top-quality sushi and sashimi, like sugar-coated foie gras with cashews and balsamic ginger sauce. Lightly fried rock shrimp and squid are teasingly touched with a creamy chile sauce, a slippery miso cod is satisfyingly silky, and a lamb brushed with…

Management has changed... for the better
by amihaly
To defend Hedeh from the previous review, the quality has gone up again because of new management. I believe they took over March 2007. I really love their shrimp tempura and their fresh sashimi. I live close by and usually try to take advantage of their happy hour.
Now the average overpriced sushi restaurant

I found this place about 2 years ago and after my first meal there was hooked. I would go there at least once a week bring sushi lovers from all over town to taste the food I would rave about. While expensive(about $85 - $100 a person) the menu was filled with wonderful delicacies and exotic fish. I even turned some non shushi fans into sushi lovers after visiting with me. About a month ago I came back to find that the regular sushi chefs were gone. The management told me they had a falling out with the owners. I gave it a shot anyway and was terribly disappointed.
The menu is now the average menu with fish you can find at any cheap sushi/Chinese restaurant. My companion had the tempura and grease was literally dripping off of the food. The quality of the sashimi went from superb to somewhat average except for the yellowtail, which I must say was pretty yummy. It almost seems like they are getting the fish from a different supplier.
I am not trying to trash what used to be my favorite restaurant in Manhattan. In fact this is my first review ever. This is more of a heads up to the owners that they should go back to the old menu and find some sushi chefs that substantiate what I would now call a well over priced menu.
The service also went slightly down hill, but since it was a Saturday night I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
- Pros: great area and atmosphere
- Cons: highly over priced, average menu
Great place!

I've been to this restaurant quite a number of times and every time, I enjoy myself more than the last. The environment is so gorgeous and perfect for a romantic dinner or just a dinner with friends and family. I see a lot of businessmen here too, so it's really just a great place for everyone.
I tend to go for their sushi (eel and yellowtail sashimi) and my husband orders the prime beef filet everytime. We recently tried their shrimp tempura, which was also delicious.
I would recommend this restaurant, especially if you've got a date you want to impress!
- Pros: Great food, ambience

Come for DRINKS, not for food

Went here last night for a late night snack. Was really excited about the small plates concept but ended up disappointed by the food. Soy chicken was too tough and better, fresher sashimi can be found elsewhere. GO HERE FOR THE DRINKS! Sake flight! Sake Sangria!
- Pros: Drinks
- Cons: Food
