There's nothing fancy about this joint, where the line for takeout often dwarfs those huddled at the three patio-style tables. A faithful re-creation of the classic banh mi sandwich draws the crowds. Served on a wonderfully chewy roll that yields easily to the teeth, it's a pleasing mix of savory meat (pate, ham and pork) and sweet pickled veggies (carrots and cucumber), plus a touch of cilantro and moderate dollop of mayo. Insist on sliced jalepeno for the requisite kick.

but good. the yummy sandwiches come in brown paper bags which make for good travel. And they have a very nice lemonade.

These are great sandwiches and at a very reasonable price. It is a nice little place with a couple of tables but is mostly for takeout. The sandwiches are really best in the spicy versions and then they are really intense - just loaded with hot peppers. However, the staff are very nice and will gladly make it only as spicy as you like it. Also try the homemade lemonade.

Just wanted to highlight a great experience I had at Nicky's last night. I was out with some friends for a birthday dinner and we had been waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant for over an hour. We were starving and decided to go to Nicky's for a quick bite that we could take to a bar. We'd been there before and love their super spicy, delicious sandwiches. The door to Nicky's was open but we walked in and realized they were actually already closed. We told them it was our friend's birthday and asked if there was any way they could make just 3 more sandwiches. That was all it took: they cheerfully made them. They could've easily shown us the door or thrown our order together hastily, but they were friendly from start to finish. We left a well-deserved $20 tip in the jar. Love it when NYC feels like a small town!
